He's extremely amazing. Very nice guy but he takes no nonsense. He's extremely interesting and makes you earn your grade. You genuinely feel like you've learned reading comprehension as well as critical thinking after the class.

Do the readings do the readings do the readings. Knew a kid who didnt buy a single book and I have absolutely no idea how he passed, because the readings are absolutely required. As long as you keep up with the readings and pay attention in the lectures, you should be okay. Awesome professor, just hard class. Lots of quizzes. Lots of EC.

Really interesting class, great professor. He makes you work for your grade though, so don't expect to just show up and get an A. There are quizzes every session, but a LOT of extra credit opportunity if you bomb a few.

Brilliant professor, interesting and engaging lectures., lots of EC, short quizzes, no essays. He encourages participation, and is very accessible outside the classroom. He believes in making students curious, creative learners rather than standardized test- taking robots. Taking his class showed me the reason I came to college. Highly recommend.

I'm pretty sure Prof. Miller is a great English teacher, but if the book's material is controversial, perhaps avoid him. He really acts like he's aware of social issues and talks about hating shame-based learning, and then ten minutes later if the class is laughing at something in a book he'll join in, even if it's shameful to someone in the class!

Took for a second time and it was a bit more laid back than the Apolcalyse but just as good. He makes really good points, wants people to speak, cares about what we're reading, and there are quizzes every class with an extra credit question. I really enjoyed his class and never wanted to skip, though could get a little boring when no one talks...

Professor Miller was amazing! Coming Apocalypse was a really interesting and fun course, even if you're planning on doing something totally unrelated. There are quizzes every class, but are very doable and fair if you read (or even just read the synopsis once or twice). It was a bit of a challenge, but worth it. Great for a 21st century course.

I've taken Miller twice and both time I have found him to be an amazing professor. His classes have really put things into perspective for me. There is extra credit, but also a quiz every class - don't be late! Participation matters, make sure you read CLOSELY, and DO NOT use your cell phone - he's very clear&serious about this. One of my fav.

There're 5 question quizzes every class with the opportunity to get 2 points extra credit. Quizzes are based on the readings and videos assigned. Don't leave the reading for last minute as they are sometimes long, but for the most part are interesting. He offers multiple extra credit assignments and an extra credit assignment at the end. Not bad.

As many of the comments state below, Professor Miller has interesting lectures and many extra credit opportunities. However, only take this class if you are barely taking any other hard courses. ALOT of work and extra credits need to be perfect in order to get credit (after 3 typos he stops reading). VERY difficult grader. Not an easy A

The man is well learned and definitely knows how to teach, and teach well. Take this course: The Coming Apocalypse. Quiz each class, but no finals, no essays. Many extra credit opportunities; grading is great; requires effort in the form of consistent dedication to readings.

One of my favorite classes this semester despite only taking this class for gen ed credit. It's important to keep up with the readings before each lecture and manage accordingly. If you leave readings/listenings/films until the night before lecture you will be miserable. Professor Miller is reasonable, brilliant, and offers INSANE extra credit!!

Fantastic teacher. I had him for "The Coming Apocalypse" and I never once disliked the lectures. There was a test every period, but they never felt like they were trying to trick you or screw you over. His passion for teaching never ceases to amaze me.

80% of grade on 10-q quizzes given every class with possibility of +2 extra credit points. 20% is participation. A lot of outside work, but this was my favorite class, and my favorite professor! He encourages creativity, offers a ton of extra credit opportunities, and demands respect. Prof. Miller loves the subject, loves teaching, and it shows.

I suggest taking this class only if you would like to take one class a semester because that is how much the work load is. He assigns a RIDICULOUS amount of reading due per class, I'm talking almost 150 pages depending on the book. There is a reading quiz EVERY class so it's not like you can just spark note the reading. Do not recommend.

Richard Miller is a kind, humble, albeit profoundly learned man . . . a gentleman in the truest, oldest sense (and this is no comment on his actual age).

All you have to do is read the material and go to class. He is a bit arrogant but it's warranted. Prof. Miller is a smart man and knows the value of his own time. People who are rating him poorly simply didn't put the work in. Very good professor I would absolutely take him again.

He is my absolute favorite professor! There is a quiz on the reading at the beginning of every class so get ready to read. There are so many extra credit opportunities-TAKE THEM! There is no curve but the extra credit can bring your grade up more than whole letter grade. Really interesting subject. Absolutely recommend this course and professor.

Professor Miller is my favorite professor I've had so far. His Coming Apocalypse class was AWESOME! But don't expect an easy A, there is a lot of reading, but the quizzes are easy and get you an A if you do the readings. His lectures are amazing and keep you engaged the whole time. He is really helpful and I recommend this class to anyone!!
