Comment:

One of the best professors I came across, actually "THE BEST". Very tough grader but he managed to make the course very interesting, and made us earn the grades. You will notice he puts more effort in the course than any of his students. Very sad to see him leave academia and hope he returns.

Comment:

Professor Snapp means well, as he's also my advisor. He's a great guy who's often available for help, and teaches thoroughly and welcomes any question. This class, in part due to my own failings, was pretty brutal. The concepts are hard and they come in fast.

Comment:

This class was hard, considered a weeding out class for CS Majors. Professor Snapp really cares about the subject and wants you to learn. The homework is hard, but not worth that much. Quizzes every week that are relatively easy. The Exams (only 2) are really hard but not impossible if you are committed to learning. Many people failed.

Don't take this class unless you HAVE too. There were no corrections on the midterm test, or on homeworks. The average midterm test grade was a 43. there was no curve after this failure. the final exam counted for 60% of your entire grade, and there was no extra credit offered. This class killed my enthusiasm for computer science.

Hardest class ever! Don't take unless required. Almost no partial credit & material is confusing. Easy to lose tons of points on small logical errors in how you approach a problem. Book is dense, not enough examples & expected to use a few theorems to solve complex problems. Does post detailed solutions after HW is due. Use Piazza to ask questions

Impossible class, deceptively nice person. Harsh grader, doesn't curve even when midterm average was 43%. Homework really hard & long. He posts posts detailed solutions which help afterwards. Assigns stuff weve barely covered in class. Uses Piazza for questions, encourages collaboration & you can usually have someone solve your homework for you.

CS 64 has been the hardest class of my life. He has made me not want to continue with CS. Although his assignments are well-organized and his explanations are clear when you can actually get him to explain something the material is too vast and the pace is too quick to go over hardly any of the homework in class.

Taking CS64 with Snapp has been ridiculous. Not only did both classes have sub 50 midterm averages, he's refusing to scale our grades, instead, making the final 60% of our grade so we can enjoy another hour of trying to make sense of his mystical labyrinth of a test. He has assassinated more CS careers this year than any Prof. in nigh a century.

Comment:

Amazingly enjoyable class. He's enthusiastic and eager to share the content with you. Class size was small and he gave one-on-one attention and feedback, got to know students personally. Makes the class incredibly cozy and fun. Enjoyable lectures & lab, enjoyable content, overall a relaxing and fun class that's pleasantly stimulating but not hard.

Snapp was by far my favorite teacher this year. He is a really fun guy, and you can tell he cares about both the subject matter, and you. He gives TONS of extra credit opportunities, it is really hard to do poorly. He can have a slightly hard time explaining things sometimes though. But overall, he made class really fun and interesting. Good teach.

Snapp is boring and not fun. This class is about useless table tricks and ridiculous computer science algorithms that have no practical use. I regret taking it. He genuinely cares about students and tries to help them out when they seek it out, that is the only consultation.

While Snapp certainly understands the material, he sometimes forgets that the students are just that -- students. His exams are quite hard without mad amounts of preparation, but if he genuinely makes something too hard he will do his best to correct it later. You learn things well, after all, you'll fail if you don't. Not easy, but good.

Incredibly interesting and animated. You are never bored in lecture. He is widely educated and can see the "big picture" across multiple fields. His classes are very demanding so don't take another tough class the semester you plan to take one of his upper level courses.

He is a really nice guy, but is a little on the strange side. There is a huge curve to begin with (83 or higher is an A) and he gives tons of extra credit on tests. There isn't any reason for you not to get at lest an A- if not an A. Sometimes fun and sometimes boring, but Snapp isn't a bad teacher.
