Ruth is very organized, her in class attendance is not necessary as most test content is based on terminology from text. Lots of reading due every week but not many things are graded so must do well on tests or quizzes,

Her tests are very challenging and don't match the textbook readings that you are required to do each week. Not very understanding of personal issues: don't bother having a meeting. Lectures are dry and boring, which is sad cause the content is interesting. Would definitely recommend rethinking professors. Cs get you degrees should be the motto.

Comment:

Ruth seems nice to the whole class, but one on one she is very cold and unhelpful. The subject material on infant development and adolescent development is fascinating but dealing with her abrasive, uncaring nature left me very unhappy with her courses. I hope she can find a way to act more supportive to new students.

Ruth is very organized and comprehensible. She can be quite particular in what she is looking for on tests, so it is important to pay close attention. Attendance is not mandatory but on tests she sometimes refers to things she said in class. Just read the material and go and enjoy the classes!

Great teacher, not mandatory to attend class however if you want to do well on her tests you need to watch the videos she shows and pay attention to class discussion. Ruth is very helpful and will show you the same level of respect that you show her, loved her class

Comment:

Powerpoint notes in class are useless as they do not even resemble what is on the exams. Very hard exam questions. Very charismatic lady, very pretty, slightly funny,probably a very nice person, just not an excellent prof. I would choose a different class with a different prof next time I take psych.

Comment:

She runs a well organized classroom, which is very appreciated. If you express an opinion that runs contrary to hers she is likely to roll her eyes or some other unfriendly gesture insinuating you are less intelligent (not open minded). I find her loftiness rather odd considering she'd only be qualified as a TA in another institution.

Ruth is a little dry in lecture, but you do have to attend class because of things that are only in class such as videos. Tests weren't hard, as long as you studied, half of her multiple choice are right off the MyPsychLab website so that's really helpful. Lectures are hardcore note taking the whole time unless there's a video. Overall, good.

Ruth is absolutely wonderful! Her lectures are interesting; her exams are fair and based on the text, readings, and lectures. Take previous comments on this website with a grain of salt. Ruth is a great professor who is willing to help her students. There is a fair amount of reading in this class ? welcome to university!

Comment:

Dry teaching, gets off topic, not very helpful and clear. Not enthusiastic or passionate about her teaching but nice enough. Not at all lenient and barely any practice of what is expected on tests. Tests can have questions completely different from her notes. I would recommend another teacher unless you are extremely dedicated.

If you take this class you just have to read the text book and not attend class. Her tests have no relevance to notes that you will take in class. It's very frustrating. I advise anyone who wished to have an enthusiastic teacher, don't take Ruth. If you are a textbook enthusiast, take Ruth. It's a lot of information rather than learning.

Psych was my favorite subject, but she turned me off! Her lectures are so dry and have no relevance in her tests! What was the point!>?! Do not waste your time with her teaching-you wont learn a thing. Pick another Psych teacher at VIU-some others are far more enthusiastic about teaching!

I found her teaching very dry, and her overheads were hard to read. Tests are hard and dont really have much to do with class notes, would be a good class to challenge rather than go to and waste your time with her and her attempt at being funny.
