she's NICE. Lectures are BORING. No attendance taken. I barely showed up to class. lectures are not posted! Essay prompts given way before the test and you're allowed 1 cheatsheet that you must turn in (make a friend so you guys can switch off days. it'll save you the time for other, harder classes) It's possible to pass with very little effort.

I was scared of taking this class because she had a lot of negative feedback. But she is very comprehensive and helpful outside and inside the class. There is a lot of reading I honestly didn't do it and I am passing the class with an B. She gives out the questions for midterms which is VERY HELPFUL i will take her again.

Very friendly and helpful professor. She wants all her students to pass so everything on the exam is based primarily on her slides and videos. Easy class if you go to class

Dr. Ness was a pretty decent teacher. I understand is that she's a little behind the times in terms of new anthropological developments. The books and films in class are very boring and hard to get through, but her lectures are pretty interesting. Read and watch tho if you want an A. Go to her office hours! She's very helpful and wants you to pass.

I really enjoyed her ritual and religion class, her tests were really easy as long as you read the texts. She is really sweet, and wants you to pass. Her class is not difficult at all.

One of the best Anthro classes I've ever taken. She's clear, engaging, and obviously passionate about her subject. She posted chapters of her own book on iLearn rather than making us buy it, even though she could have made some easy money that way. Very friendly and engaging.

Take lots of notes but you'll have to really figure out what she wants from you for her exams and project. She's not very clear with her instructions - very vague. She blamed majority of class for not doing well. This professor chastises and demeans her students - sends it off as humor. She has humiliated students in class.

For a breadth class, this class certainly was not worth taking. Avoid this class if able, the professor spends her time mostly ranting about off topic issues. I had a awfully hard time in this class.

Professor Ness is pretty nice, she appreciates class participation and insightful comments. Her reading quizzes are really on really specific information. Remember that her final tests on applied concepts, not just knowing the information.

attending lectures, taking good notes, reading assigned books and understanding the key terms will be enough on your part. just bare in mind her boringness and side-tracking stories during lecture. so nothing brutal, pretty simple

Very boring... It seems hard for her to focus on just one topic. Jumps around to much and talks to much about her personal stories that aren't even on her tests. Her tests questions can be confusing. It's not impossible to pass, just read and take lots of notes.

She was not a difficult professor, but she focuses primarily on southeast asian/ pacific islander cultures, which are not very interesting. Other professors include many more interesting cultures to study and I feel cheated to have taken her class! Avoid unless you feel that pig farmers in papua new guinea are worth focusing on for half a quarter!

BRING YOUR CLICKERS. Class is ridiculously easy. Midterms are a joke. As a freshman, I did not realize the importance of clickers until I took this class. I received an A on the midterm and the final, but received B+ in the class because I forgot my clicker nearly everyday (my fault). Recommend reading the books, but not really needed to pass.

Professor Ness was SO boring. Almost every laptop screen had facebook or games or movies on it. You have to go to lecture to answer clicker questions but the rest of the time you can sit there doing nothing and still pass. Overall it was a pretty easy class though.

Yes, it's a very easy class where you can get away without readings/attendance. I think the reason why people hate her class is because it gets a bit technical with terms, but it's college. If anthro interests you, you'll like this class (as I did). Her final point is insightful & shows that she is very passionate & knowledgeable about her subject.

Extremely EASY! I took no notes and read most of the first book and none of the second book or the 3 essays. Went to class everyday and didn't study tests and still got an A. She is BORING. She loves to talk. She spends over 5 minutes on her examples that help explain the meaning of key terms. Her "final point" of the quarter took 15 minutes.
