Comment:
She's a great anthropologist, but as a professor she leaves much to be desired. Lectures are wildly tangential and rushed. Her relationship with the group of TAs is incredibly annoying-basically it's a group of smug undergrads camping out in the class and making inside jokes with her. The class feels like Susan Harding Fan Club. Just read her book.

Educational and enlightening. She has a dry sense of humor and is very good natured. Very knowledgeable of the subject matter. Provides a safe and tolerant space to discuss the subject matter. No midterm or final. Short weekly papers, 3 essays, and a presentation. Highly recommend.

I mainly only like Physical Anthropology, so I thought the Cultural stuff was pretty boring. There's no final. She gives quizzes on the readings and there are 4 papers in the class. If you do the reading and show up to class and discussion, you should be able to get a pretty good grade.

I would definitely take a class with her again. The work load is reasonable. Once you go to lecture though you can't leave or points could get taken off. I wasn't that interested in cultural anthropology before, but now I'm looking forward to the upper division classes. She shows great videos in class. She also gives out extra credit.

Susan beginning was a rather hilarious instructor and is defiantly a character. It is a lot of reading, but the essays are rather easy. Class was fun at times, but r she really cracked down on use ofphones internet and you'd lose points if you left class early. Going to class is also semi-important because she helps w/readings and there are quizzes

Susan is awesome. I enjoyed going to lectures, even though sometimes she went off on tangents. She's an easy grader too, and gives out candy towards the end of class :)Her assignments are also very interesting and a change from all the boring stuff you usually have to do. If you're at all interested in religion, take her class!

American Evangelical Cultures is by far, THEE MOST interesting class I have taken at UCSC. Maybe, it might be because I believe in evolution and I think evangelicalism is really interesting. The readings kept me intrigued and really wanting to learn. Professor Harding is a SWEETHEART :) She's passionate, easygrader, and motivating!

Susan is super annoying and boring. She goes off on tangents and is quite judgmental. She gives her opinion way more than facts and tries way to hard to fit in with the current culture all while showing materials that are way outdated especially her own book.

Susan was a really great professor. I went in knowing nothing about Anthropology and learned a lot. She was nice and really funny. I ended up changing my major to anthropology after this class!

If your very sweet and eccentric grandma was an anthropology professor, she would be Susan Harding. This class is reading intensive, but the TAs are helpful and Susan keeps it fair. Tests are easy, and papers are ok. Go to lecture, do the readings, and LEARN about cultural anthropology. Easy A. :)

Susan is incredible. She definitely wants you to understand the subject and really challenge any presuppositions you may have. She teaches a great intro course because she wants to show you what Anthro is really about. If you do the readings and attend lecture you'll do fine.

A little bit crazy, she gets distracted a lot and makes weird jokes. But she knows A LOT about Anthro, and her powerpoints have a lot of good info in them. Not an easy A class, prepare to read and write a lot.

Susan Harding is one of the most interesting professors at this school. She's wickedly smart, but also slightly scatterbrained--which makes her lectures hilarious. All of the class material is ridiculously interesting, you will enjoy this class. Susan is also hilarious...did I already mention that?

Susan knows her stuff. Very friendly. If you have an interest in studying Christianity she will talk to you for hours. Her theory class is hard. I had her last quarter for her class on Christianity (I don't remember the #) and it was really awesome. She's fun to talk to once you get her going.
