Comment:

Reading the textbook and working problems in addition to going to classes helped me pass. Dr. Goodwin doesn't always explain things fully, but if you ask questions in class and do work on your own you should get through just fine! He's a pretty fair grader on exams as well, so that helps!

Dr. Goodwin really does care about his students and if you show him you are willing to work then he will most definitely work with you. BUT you need to pay attention in class and do all the problems he assigns, he takes some of his tests problems directly from assigned problems.

Dr. G is a good guy, but I struggled with his teaching methods. He teaches in a totally weird way that made no sense to me. Had to teach myself everything from the book. He's hilarious though and very approachable.

Comment:

Goodwin teaches nearly exclusively by example in lecture and in lab. His tests (in class) follow closely the examples stressed in class. The grading in both lab and class is tough, though his curve helps out a lot. Goodwin likes to make corny jokes, and usually appreciates laughter and corny jokes back. Don't be afraid to talk to him. DO NOT YAWN!

Goodwin has his moments. Sometimes he's funny, and sometimes I have to pinch myself to stay awake. Read the book, do the problems, attend a few help sessions, and you'll be fine. His lectures don't really help much because he's not that organized.

i took organic 1 and 2 from this professor. during the first week or so, he will stay formal and get on to you about not paying attention. later on, he likes to make jokes about things and tell little stories. because you're in a big class of 80+ (110 next year) he may seem a bit unapproachable. but do ask him questions and he will help very much.

EXCELLENT teacher! Very smart.. very nice.. and very funny.. Great guy who will help outside of class. Explains things many ways so that everyone can understand it. Really understands that his class is not the only class you are taking. Tests are very fair, they cover the material but aren't tricky.

I am in grad school right now. Looking back at my time at Hendrix, I would have to say this school had some of the best teachers. Prof. Goodwin was among them. He was skilled at explaining the same problem using different methods, so students with various backgrounds can understand the concept.
