Comment:

Here is all you need to know- each class consists of her transcribing brief notes on to the chalkboard from yellowing, old lecture notes of hers from 30 years ago. I would have learned more if she had just emailed me her notes, which I could have read at home in no joke five minutes, instead of 1.5 hours in class twice a week!

Comment:

Sister Siu, simply put, is hard. Her lectures are out of the book, but not unbearable. Her grading style is very picky, so it is difficult to get a decent grade, but it is a passable class. Still, I would warn anyone to avoid this class unless they are willing to spent an excessive amount of time on work for a 100 level course.

East Asian Civ - As long as you do the readings, pay attention in class, and take A LOT of notes, you'll do fine. She's not the most interesting Professor, but her class is not overly hard. She expects A LOT from you, but she also gives you the information you need to pass. You get a study guide for ALL the exams! She really isn't that bad.

Comment:

One of the worst professors I ever had in my life! She is so clueless of what she is teaching and she makes her midterms so hard! This is only an introductory history class (general education) and is making it like a History major class! DO NOT EVER TAKE HER CLASS! ANYTHING ELSE IS BETTER THAN THIS CLASS”!

She is absolutely NOT biased towards Asian students. If you want an A or B in her class, all you need to do is 1 don't skip class, 2 take lots of notes, 3 do the reading. As long as you do the work and show the even the slightest interest, you will do just fine! However, her lectures can be a bit long and dull with very little student conversation.

In hindsight I probably would not take her again. I'm a senior and this is one of the harder classes i've taken at usf. if you need to fulfill your history core, save yourself a lot of misery and take Fels!

Expects a lot for her quiz and tests. Talk to her one on one in her office to see how you can improve. If you show concern and that you want to improve she'll be lenient and up your grade. 1 group presentation= easy. 1 term paper on anything you want =easy. SHE'S NOT THAT BAD. very lengthy and text booky lectures but she's very sweet.

Dr. Siu was not a good teacher at all. I went to her during her office hours to ask a question about a grade and she practically blew me off. She is not the best or nicest teacher. Her class is the hardest that I have ever taken. Also during our final she tested us on Vietnam, even though she did not teach it. I recommend NOT to take this class!

Not the best teacher. She is biased towards asian students. If you are white, she tells you that you pretty much dont have a chance to receive a good grade in her class because you dont know chinese. This class is purely based on China. She is not helpful and her lectures are boring. You have to decipher her notes during class. DO NOT TAKE HER!

Nitpicky grader; grades on grammar, sentence structure, style, etc. for IN-CLASS essay midterm!!! Reading is a complete bore and doesn't correspond to lectures, which are even MORE boring. Gives virtually NO A's. Do NOT take this class; no, don't even consider it.

Her class is nothing but long, tedious lectures, that are so disorganized that it's impossible to take good notes! Her exams are mostly essay stlye questions and she expects you to remember every single detail...not a single person in her class has an A...it's impossible! I can't wait for this class to be done...DONT COME>>BELIEVE ME!!!!

HORRIBLE! proceeded to tell our class that the germans sunk the titanic, discuss the Huns invading china in a WESTERN CIV class. Her one bobby pin holding back her bad haircut (that she continues to get redone) is obnoxious. Likes to laugh at what i guess are her own jokes.

She writes down all the notes u have to take in class and u don't really have to read the textbooks at all. However, the tests are very hard which u have to write essays. If u go talk to her about your test, she will tell u where to improve and the 2nd test will be much better than the 1st.

This was a very interesting class. I hate history, but she made it fun. It was a little challenging, but worth it.
