Comment:
Dr. St Louis' slides are unclear and are mostly graphs with no prof-added text. If you don't go to class you probably won't do well since he hints at what slides will be tested on and out of his 70+ page slides its hard to pick out important content from useless material. Course concepts are not hard to understand and all exams non-cumulative.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! I took this as an APE and I am regretting it so much, it will tank my GPA. His slides are just random graphs that you are supposed to know every single detail about. Literally one of his lecture notes was 144 pages of the IPCC report..... He didn't add anything to it and I have no idea what to take from it.

This class is awesome for the fact that you don't have a midterm or a final ... But don't take it if you already have a heavy course load. You have to read a scientific article each week then write a report on it. There is also a group presentation which is graded half by him and the other half by the students (hopefully they like you...)

A laid back but a good professor. Often ends class early, but going to class is required because he gives LOTS of exam questions that show up on exams. He splits his grading into 3 non-cumulative written only midterms, final exam, and a fun video presentation. Another bonus is he adds 3% to your final grade which bumps everyone up a letter grade!

Dr St Louis is overall a good prof. Grades are based on four non-cumulative exams and a group project. He posts all his slides before the lecture and points out what is worthwhile knowing for the exams during the lecture. He does test on very specific material, but it is an easy class to do well in (B to A- range) but you do have to work for an A.

Unfortunately, his lectures are full of diagrams from other sources which he likes to pull small details from for exams. No textbook but while going through lectures, he will tell you a few questions that will be on the exams. Best go to lectures to hear these little hints. Video project is time consuming if you do it well. Gotta work for an A.

The best way to approach this course is to study hard and do well on the first 3 exams. That shouldn't be a problem because they were relatively straight forward. The final was the hardest and nit picky with some very random questions. He is not arrogant at all and he does enjoy the subject manner, he just speaks monotone but is very friendly.

Comment:
Do not recommend! Notes are almost entirely figures that we have to interpret on our own, class extremely boring due to his lack of interest and monotone voice, and exams nit-picky. Video project was graded completely subjectively with no feedback. Professor talked down to students and had a superior attitude. Not a GPA booster class.

Fair=best word to describe him. He cut me a huge break so I don't want to bash him, but it is one of the harder B's I've had to work for. Splitting the term into 4 non-cumulative exams is pretty sweet though, and the video is free marks, but time consuming. Attend class b/c he tells you what's on the exam. Material can be very interesting as well.

The exams are spread out, so you'll have more chances to do well if you did bad on one exam. The final is only 25%. Everyone did well on the group project, so that's an easy 20%. He is helpful. I've emailed him and asked him questions and he responds promptly. He's sort of awkward to talk to and I don't think he likes lecturing very much.

Good because the tests are non cumulative BUT there is no text book and his notes are VERY poor and have nearly no content. The tests are based on about 4-5 lectures so if you miss ONE class you are basically screwed because his notes are bad. Things happen and sometimes people need to miss class, it shouldn't affect our marks that much. AVOIDi

Loved this class and Prof! He did everything he could to make the class easy and interesting. Four tests, none are cumulitive, no textbook, and the assignment was easy to do and fun! Would take another class with him for sure!

He's fantastic, lets you leave early some classes and the final isn't worth that much! Easy to talk to and understand. Very helpful regarding assignments and what to study. Please consider this over other students comments.

I am not sure if I am able to say what I would like to say about this professor in a public forum -- I am currently a Doctoral level student in another program and am frankly surprised that he has not been fired yet. A very unfortunately unprofessional individual. It had to be said.

If you are looking for a GPA boost, stay away, stay very far away from this course. He is a nice guy, but the course is hypocritical: His language in the lectures is so general that I could give them, but the tests are so picky about what you write. Can't have it both ways Vince!

I am fourth year, graduating and needed to take this biosci class. This guy really messed up my last year. Here is why. The previous year there was a 50% class average on final exam...but was still curved. This year....NOT curved and so far about 60% class average on midterms.

Pulls his notes straight from Wikipedia, word for word. TAs mark extremely harshly even if you give the same answer word for word from the notes. Predicting class average to be around a C-. Stay away, stay far far away.

Excellant Professor! very laid back. Very realistic and down to earth. Some lectures were a bit dry, but for the most part, he keeps it interesting
