Took this class mostly due to the glowing reviews on here and regretted it every second of the semester. Easy A in theory but anyone who has sat through one of his excruciating lectures would beg to differ. Books are interesting, but nobody even reads them. He never really lets students answer questions themselves, even if asked directly.

Dr. Tighe is an amazing professor, he can be dull at some points, but he is such a great and approachable guy. He has a great passion in Tolkien, which can be seen in class discussions.

Dr. Tighe is the best professor I've had so far here at Muhlenberg. He cares a lot about what he is teaching, and knows just about everything there is to know about the class. If you do the reading, take time to write the essays, and do the journal as you're reading, you'll be alright.

Took an intro history class with Tighe to fulfill a GAR and this class was exactly what I wanted it to be. It's mostly an easy A if you can write well. His lectures are long and can be monotone or boring, but he means well and cares a lot about keeping everyone engaged. The only grades are papers and a small oral powerpoint presentation.

So much reading! But, extremely knowledgeable about the subject (which was Middle Earth, so that's kinda cool). Could probably write a lengthy biography about Tolkien. Generous grader. Really passionate. Helpful comments. All good things!

Tighe may be one of my favorite professors at Muhlenberg. He is in love with the subjects he teaches, and his excitement and passion just radiates! He's a pretty easy grader, and as long as you read and participate, you should be good to go. He's also absolutely hysterical, and his accent is so interesting!

I love waking up for his class. He gets so excited over the subject he teaches and carries that excitement to his students. Crazy amounts of reading, but makes you think. No other homework, no tests, no quizzes. You dont even have to take notes. Take this class if you are a strong writer--you wont regret it!

Tighe is the man. Shows up and makes an ass of himself prancing around the room and hinting at controversial jokes. No homework, tests, or quizzes, just a few papers that if you put half your effort into you'll get at least a B

Best and easiest prof i've had. A bit dry but definitely everyone should take a class with him. That is one of the unwritten rules at the Berg.
