Comment:
He is great with visual aides. At my old school, my Chinese professor was very scatterbrained. Zhang is very straightforward. For those who are complaining, you can't freaking learn a language overnight. Homework is necessary and he is a fair grader. Be respectful and show up to class and put in effort and he will be nice and respectful to you.

What you put into Zhang Laoshi's class is what you will get out of it. He is extremely knowledgeable and willing to help when approached outside of class. He moves at a fast pace and assigns plenty of homework, and it is absolutely necessary to study to get a good grade.

Professor Zhang is very clear in what he wants and is happy to help you out. You have to stay on top of your homework and studying to get a good grade in this class. If you fall behind it will be hard to catch up because Zhang tends to go through material quickly. Tests are based on homework and attendance is worth 20 percent of your grade.

Professor Zhang is a really amazing teacher. He knows his subject material, as an expert should and even more. His English is actually extremely proficient and so is his Mandarin; he explains things really clear and is overall a nice and rational professor. The class may be hard if you are not a native Chinese, but for me it was medium.

I did Chin 101/102 and got an A- both semesters. The key is to not get behind and put an effort into the homeworks (since the exams are pretty much a reworded version of the homework). Can be time-consuming, but he definitely makes Chinese fun and interesting.

I take CHIN 101&102. He's a great Chinese prof of SDSU! I really have to make an effort to get an A, which means turn in all assignments, study characters and write passionately in Chinese. Test is homework-based :) Besides, Chinese culture and food becomes fascinating on his presentation!

Zhang lao shi is the best teacher I've had at SDSU! He is always nice and is very helpful (even durring office hours). I took his non-heritage class and almost everyone who put effort into the class got A's on the test. If you're really interested in learning Chinese, and A isn't hard to get. Jia you!

Prof. Zhang is a pretty cool teacher in chin202. I took heritage. Even though the hwk (njstar & ms word) seems a lot, but you get used to it. The hwk really helps you learn the material and refine you fluency in the chinese language. Class can get boring, but Zhang is pretty funny guy. Heard he's teaching Chin101 this fall (heritage/non-heritage).

too much homework, but do the homework it really does help, the testes are pretty easy everyone mostly gets an A. He gives you study guides for midterms and finals, do them it really helps. He's funny but its kind of boring in his class, but he teaches so you can understand it.

I <3 Zhang Laoshi. He is the best Chinese prof at SDSU. He's also the Program Advisor of the chinese program. He's more of a clear lecturer that gives u insight not only into the language structure but also the cultural background of chinese. The assignments are a bit overwhlmg and tedious, but it really helps you refine your chinese skills.

Chinese is a hard langugage but I think he explains things very well. He dissects every sentence in the text so you can understand it and everything he talks about goes in the test so the best thing to do is take a lot of notes while going through the text and you'll be guaranteed an A. He's the best Chinese teacher I've ever had.
