Comment:
Zimmerman is really passionate about the things he knows and he really does care about the students. While you don't have to show up to class, he reviews a lot of terms that are on the midterm and final, so there is some incentive to go. However, lecture can be really dry, and he answers way to many questions, so you never really cover the reading

Comment:
Professor Zimmerman is a phenomenal professor who thinks outside the box while respecting the opinions of his students. His lectures are engaging and enjoyable. Readings are reasonable and anything but dry. This course is more philosophy based but he and the TAs walk you through material. He has to be one of the best professors.

Comment:
He clearly know his stuff but this shows when he rambles on about random historical tangents. It's hard to decipher what exactly you need to know and random tangents in the lectures. Discussion section is very helpful and the TA's were extremely knowledgeable. Definitely more of a philosophy class than history, so beware of that.

Comment:
Easy A, show up to discussion and do the readings. However, he spends too much time going over old stuff and exploring useless tangents. Beware: Don't be fooled by "HIST" label, it's NOT a history class, it's a philosophy class with an ideological agenda. He's a Marxist and it shows. Look up the book "Marx Civil War in the US" Notice the author?

Do not take this course if you don't like philosophy. Often rambles and spends too much time on reviewing content from the previous lecture. Goes off on tangents and even though they may be interesting, it means we cant get through all the lecture for the day. Overall interesting prof and seems really open to getting to know students.

Such a nice prof! Never intimidating and clearly knowledgeable in his field. TA really effects the grade, one big paper and two easy tests. Lots of reading, and a lot of it is dry including lectures but you can get by without doing it all. The material is really interesting and good to know!

The class is amazing if you are interested in philosophy and ideology! Not easy but worthy! There are 9 books needed to read. The materials are good but dense. The grade is composed by teaching assignment, participation, midterm(half-hour quiz) and final exam. Pro. Zimmerman is helpful, knowledgable and inspirational, go to his office hour!

Very good professor. He really wish to interact with students even when it's a big lecture. Although you will have to read A LOT for History 1121 course, I would recommend taking his classes. He is very knowledgeable and open minded to different opinions.

He is a great professor but the course was not. It is more of a philosophy course than history. There are 9 books he requires for the class. I would suggest trying to borrow them from someone who took the class or finding them online

His passion for the subject makes you excited about it. Reading the books is necessary. It's fine if you cannot read everything. GO TO THE LECTURES! The midterm (small quiz) and the final are made up largely of what he discusses in class. There are only 4 assignments: the midterm (small quiz), analytical report, teaching assignment, and a final

Dr. Zimmerman is a fascinating and brilliant professor. If you're at all interested in politics, philosophy, or history, Take. This. Class. Be prepared for an intellectual challenge, but it's worth it. Definitely go to his office hours or chat with him after class, he has a lot of insight and is willing to help you if you show interest.

Don't take this class unless you like philosophy. It's pretty much 75% philosophy and 25% history; I think it should be classified as philosophy class instead. I felt like already knowing European history was a prerequisite to this class because it built on that knowledge instead of teaching it.

Comment:
This course serves as an introduction to European intellectual history. The texts are presented within a historical framework, and are meant to tie with one another. Excellent course that serves to introduce students into historical reading, analysis, and thinking. Imperative into understanding critical theory and intellectual history.

Dr. Zimmerman is a cool professor. You need to listen during lectures and do the readings if you want to do well in his class. The TAs are really helpful and Dr. Zimmerman is super willing to stay after class and answer questions. If you don't like the material, do not take the class, because it can get very esoteric.

Prof. Zimmerman is absolutely great, one of the best professors I've had. Really chill guy, has a good sense of humor and is very helpful if you come to him. Despite having a 2.5hr class discussion was always interesting and engaging, and he is always open to new ideas. Great text choice too. Definitely take his class if you can.

This class was well-taught. Professor Zimmerman managed to get students engaged in discussions even in a class of 70 people. The midterms and finals were easy, as long as one attended the lectures and did the readings. The prof. is very open-minded and is willing to talk to students in his office hours. I learned a lot from the class.

Overall a great professor, very knowledgeable and passionate about German history. Attendance was mandatory and he created a seating chart for a 70+ person class, which I thought was absurd. His grading scale is also a bit off, 94.5 is an A minus in his book.
