How to get an A: 1. Show up to class for attendance. 2. Respect the guy. Getting on his good side can help a LOT. 3. Fill out the "study guide" he gives you and go over the answers an hour before the exam (it is basically the exam itself verbatim). 4. Put some effort into the papers. 5. Congrats you got your A. You're welcome.

I took his intro to western music class. He really knows what he's talking about but explains it horribly. Uses very advanced words to describe simple ideas. Has no idea how to use technology so expect the kind of class your parents took (no powerpoint). Honestly, just read the book + listen to the music and you will do very well.

Although he's a smart guy and seems to have a good handle on the subject matter, he doesn't communicate very well as far as grades go, and it often takes him excessive amounts of time to return papers/projects/exams.

Difficult class for the non jazz-savvy person. He gives his lectures as though you know as much as he does about this material. I do not recommended it for those who think it will be one of those easy music courses. He is an interesting sort of person to say the least; kind of an oddball.

Excellent class! Learned a LOT! Exams require plenty of studying if you want an A, but it's worth it. His jazz band is fantastic too.
