One of the best professors I had at uh. Amazing lectures. I would record his lectures and listen to them on my way home. All the tests are based off the lectures. So attendance is HIGHLY recommended. There were readings and discussion every week. I am not a history major, and I got an A for the class. Thank you for an amazing class!!!

He gives fantastic lectures and the tests are all about the lectures. Miss a class at your own peril! He knows the material impeccably well and is able to dictate it in an organized and clear fashion. I hate listening to a lecture and not knowing what is important for my note-taking. That's never an issue with Doctor Stone. He's just what I want.

Dr. Stone's knowledge of the the subject matter was apparent in this course. His lectures were interesting and he tries to inject humor into the lectures here and there. The tests were all essay and they come directly from the lectures, but the textbook provides supplementary information that was useful for the tests.

Stone's published books are outstanding scholarship. Has a gift for lecturing and treats roundtable discussions more like a state department briefing. The subjects he teaches are amazing. I love the study of world revolutions. But he has very little respect for the most ordinary persons. This is why I'll study world revolutions under someone else.

Took his class HIST 2353 for a humanities core first semester at UH. Class was very interesting, he's funny. But grading is left to TA and its harsh. TA expected too much for time limit. 1 Paper (over candide) 1/6 of grade. 2 exams each 1/6 of grade. and final 1/2 of grade. I made a B on the paper and first two test. Pulled an A through the final.

Dr. Stone is alot better at teaching Western Civ 2353. If you need him for western civ, take him. If you want to take him for a junior level class. I would suggest you do not. Take O'brien instead for your Junior level history classes, not Stone.

He's not a hard professor in my opinion, the material was interesting. Attendance isn't required, but it helps extremely if you go. Some essay questions are based on one lecture so it's strongly advised you attend the lectures. 3 exams and 1 paper. Take good notes and don't delay doing the essay. Highly recommended professor.

He is an AWESOME teacher. However, it is not an easy class. You have to go, take notes, and study. His material though is extremely interesting. Overall, I loved the class. If I ever need another history class, I'm definitely going to try to take it from him!

I have always hated history with a burning passion, but he makes history about as interesting as history can get. His lectures are vibrant and he's extremely interested in the subject matter. He's also hilarious! You have to take incredible notes and study endlessly for the exams, but if I can make a B in there, anyone can!

I took him for French History. He demands you read his book which is incomprehensible, which he admits, and then write a 10-12 pg paper about it. If you try to refute anything in his book, your automatically deducted a grade! Too much reading for a sophomore level class, and he made it so incredibly boring

Go to class! It really can make or break your grade. This is a great course taught by an amazing professor. His interest in the French Revolution creates an interest in his students. I took him for 2353 and plan on taking 3347 from him.

Great lecturer and he is very knowledgeable about history, teaches with passion. Take this class it is really great if you wanna learn history. 2 in class exam and a paper about 'Candide' very easy if you start early. Final takes time to study, but you will do good if you take notes. Read the book All Quite on the western front. Amazing book.

This guy is difficult! But he makes the class extremely interesting. Has a strange sense of humor (which is a good thing). Only book you really have to read is Candide, but take detailed notes! If you have to, share notes with someone else! Study hard and good luck, you'll learn a lot!

Not the worst prof, but no the best either. TAKE NOTES ON EVERYTHING. The tests are all essay and the TA has a "review" session but the tests can be very difficult. The only book you really absolutely have to read is Candide

I wish I never took this class. It was much more difficult than necessary. He also makes students read two of his books which are incomprehensible. Half the class dropped. He's better at teaching West Civ. than Fr Rev. We had no idea what to expect for the final, it's the only test for the class. 10-12 paper 40% of grade compare his book to another
