Comment:
Tillery was fine. His TA on the other hand is a tough grader. The criteria for written essays is not clear at all. Three essays and weekly textbook assignments. The textbook assignments are easy. Focus on the essays and make sure to go to the TA for help with your thesis.

I loved going to Professor's Tillery's classes because he was really invested in history and would make it interesting to learn. He also had a TA who did all the grading and she was really tough. Tillery is really funny though and i enjoyed his class

This was by far the easiest A I've taken at UH. I didn't even get the textbook, didn't take notes, barely came & got an A on all of the exams. Professor Tillery literally gives you the questions to the exam as well as the answers. All you have to do is reword it in your own words & you wont get anything less than a 90 on the exams He also gives EC

Tillery is a decent prof. but it is his TA's that were worse. There were 3 of them grading our tests (which consisted of 3 essays) on obviously different terms. It was not fair and my TA graded very hard. He gives 5 "pop quizzes" throughout the year which count as 10 points extra credit each. Three tests and each test is 1/3 of your grade.

Easy A class. Final grade out of 300 points (3 test) but gives up to 50 points of EC. I got like 75's on each test but the EC landed me to a B+. Only get the EC at the end of class. TA holds review sessions which are good, and make sure you write down definitions. Test are a 1-1.5 paper 2/3 of a page paper and you pick topics, & definitions section

our class was huge so attendance wasn't mandatory. grade consist of 4 test, lectures were pointless, they gave the review and notes a week before test but if you studied you'd pass easily. Got a B on all test and came to class twice for extra credit and got a A-

Absolutely one of the best professors at UH. He doesnt deliberately make his classes difficult. He always says his aim is to test his students on what they know, not what they dont know. Ive taken two classes with Professor Tillery and Ive only ever gotten 100s on his exams. Take him if you have the chance. Impossible to not make an A if u try

Professor Tillery has a clear passion for History and informing the youth about it. He wants his students to get the best grade and thus gives many extra-credit pop quizzes. He's a bit hard to hear as he tends to lean towards one side of the room. He also lets his own personal political beliefs get mixed in with the lectures themselves sometimes.

He is a very nice person, but his lectures are very boring. I'm pretty sure they help but they are very hard to listen to. His tests are impressively tough for a "basic" course. He makes you write a full essay, plus a short essay and about 10 definitions, all of which you have to write on a blue book from memory.

Attendance is mandatory and for that you will be assigned a seat and you will stuck with that seat for the entire semester! I just don't get the point of that! Attendance can be taken in many different ways. Besides, BORING LECTURES!!! and lots of pop quizzes.

HORRIBLE! lectures are boring as hell. no PP slides just talking! tests are pretty hard. you will be given topics to choose and write about but you will have to memorize at least 3 whole essays + a bunch of terms to identify. All your answers should be written down in a blue book. TA's will make a review session that's unhelpful at all. JUST DON'T!

Professor Tillery is by far one of the worst professors I've encountered at University of Houston, his TA's taught the whole class he is hard to get a hold of, I took a incomplete in the class and I still haven't got my grade back even though its been several months since I finished the course. Hes hard to get a hold of

Mandatory attendance. Very lecture heavy and really boring if you know anything about history already. Don't buy the textbook, not helpful at all for this course. Easy tests, gives the questions ahead of time. Two essays(1 long, 1 short) and vocabulary free response on each test. Professor is nice (unless you leave mid-lecture), but TAs were rude.

His lecture style is speech style. You may feel lazy, but attendance is mandatory and a big chunk of your points. The only way to piss Tillary off is leaving during class. DO NOT buy the textbook. You'll get an A on every test by studying his reviews. He has pop quizzes for extra points towards tests. Go to class EVERYDAY. I don't regret taking him

Attendance is mandatory, it is a big part of your grade. No homework. Don't buy the textbook, I did and didn't open it once. The tests are okay, if you are good at memorizing. The test consists of identifications, short essay and a long essay. He provides a list of questions and words that he choose from for every test.

Amazing Teacher. He gives extra credit and actually wants his students to pass. Not a hard grader. Show up and take notes. He offers history and his opinion. If you learn enough to have an opinion on the events and issues he discusses and are able to convey any true opinion, you will pass. Textbook not required. Any books are used for extra credit

The exams were all essay-based/identification and his lectures were pretty much useless, but attendance was still mandatory. The TAs pretty much were in charge of his class and there were two extra credit pop quizzes to help you. His lectures were so inconsistent and he would read from the notes he posts on blackboard.

If you're good at memorizing, take this class!! He gives you the exams ahead of time so just memorize the answers. You can find everything on Quizlet or through the TA. 3 exams consisting of 50 questions and two essays. That's all you're graded on. Gives extra credit for showing up to class. Do NOT buy the textbook; you won't need it. Easy class!

Dr. Tillery is very funny, and he was an easy grader for this course. We only had a midterm and a final essay. Attendance is extra credit, so I passed with that credit. He's a very nice and friendly man, and his lectures were very interesting because he's very passionate about this course.
