Comment:
Westcott is good professor. He expects a lot out of you and can be intimidating. However, he does care about you as a student and is willing to help. This course demands more concentration and effort especially on the homework assignments. If you read, do the homework and analyze the papers, you will pass the quizzes along with the course.

Chem 320 - Biophysical Chemistry Dr. Westcott expects a lot for his students and can be a little crass. However, he is also a very understanding person and truly cares about his students. If you don't do the work, don't do the reading, don't show up, and don't participate then you're not going to pass.

He grades on 4 tests and 1 final in the semester. Most of his tests are 30 multiple choice questions, but there is one free response test worth 36 points, however it is graded out of 30. He is a bit tough but he has his own grading scale that should make it easier to pass.

For starters, I passed every class I took with Dr. Westcott (got an A in all of them). That being said... he is the type of guy who really doesn't care. If you're struggling, you're on your own mate; He won't go out of his way to help you. A good way to summarize his courses is, trial by fire. May the odds be ever in your favor.

If you plan to take this course with him, be prepared for his quizzes. I struggled throughout the class trying to study what I think is going to be on the quiz and its the complete opposite. There isn't any room to improve your grades except for quizzes and the final. He 's always expects you to remember everything from Gen Chem. Never taking again

Slowest grader ever. How hard is it to grade a scantron? you just put it in a machine! He is also really hard to talk to. he makes you sound so stupid. Don't take this class. Mark my words. He doesn't care about the students.

If you can take 4 tests and pass a class, then good luck. Exam questions are harder than examples in class or the ones he puts online. Kinda sassy but lectures were entertaining.

This class was a movement.... a bowel movement. Time for CCSU to drain the Swamp on professors like Barry Westcott and hire better ones. CCSU needs to make Chemistry Great Again. Crooked Westcott

Westcott is an ok professor but not a good person. 8 am 3 hour lecture on friday mornings aren't fun anyways and he does help at making it any better. Since it was a huge lecture he would have a quiz every class before it started to count as a grade and attendance. Im a pre nursing major and would not recommend for others.

Scattered lecturer and unapproachable man. Has students figure out the answers to each step in his lecture and barely checks to see if it's correct, making your notes trash. Grades based solely on exams. He tries his hardest to scare everyone into dropping the class instead of encouraging us to keep trying to learn and I have no respect for that.

He spoke down to me when I asked him a question about his lecture. He was rude towards the students and took his frustration out on the students who were trying. On his best day he is a mediocre professor at a mediocre college, need I say more.

I took inorganic chem. Only 1 exam and a quiz each week. He had us memorize the s and p blocks of the periodic table. I wasn't comfortable asking him questions, because he can be so insulting to students, and there was no tutor for this course!! He will ask you quiz Q's on things he didn't cover in lecture.

I wasn't sure about Dr. Westcott when I first started taking his class, but all-in-all, he's a pretty funny guy, so the lectures are never boring, and he rewards you if you demonstrate that you're really making a solid effort to understand the material.

Dr. Westcott's lectures are far from boring. He always can make the class laugh while conveying all information needed to succeed. The class is tough as most college classes are, and outside practice is definitely needed to do well. Really down to earth, just be able to take a joke. DO NOT SKIP CLASS YOU WILL FALL BEHIND. Favorite class by far

If chemistry isn't your strong suit I wouldn't recommend. If you are pre-nursing I HIGHLY RECOMMEND switching professors. He gives 4 exams and a final that are hard, even with studying. He can be condescending when answering questions and does not doll out help willingly. He often gets sidetracked with random conversations and does not curve grades

I really enjoyed his class, and this is coming from someone who HATES chemistry and dropped the same class previously. Weekly quizzes from notes taken in class (and 1 exam- final). His lectures are interesting so the class doesn't drag on. He makes connections to other subjects, like bio, making the content more understandable. Take him if you can!

I like Dr. Westcott as a lecturer, but although he has a great sense of humor, it can devolve into a somewhat frequent diversion from the course material. He can be condescending, and often collectively insults his class, though usually with JUST enough jest to not offend. You know what's expected, and tests are fair. Ample practice material.

I did not expect Chemistry to be easy. I took the course as a prerequisite for Engineering. I went to his office hours and he made me feel like an imbecile for not understanding the material.

Dr. Westcott is one of the best science teachers I have had at CCSU. He keeps class entertaining and worthwhile, and does out a lot of insightful examples that are relatable topics for all science majors. If you stick with the hard curriculum, and show up to class on a regular basis, you will do just fine.

Study the old test as well he will take some old ? from tests. he says everything learned is fair game. This class can be either a nightmare or a wonderful dream. Work hard read the textbook and STUDY/ GO TO CLASS
