Comment:

Loved him! I wish I could take a million more classes by him. He's hilarious and creates a class environment that makes you comfortable when doing your speeches. There's around 6 or 7 speeches, but if you give yourself enough time to write and practice them, you'll for sure get an A. If you're ever going to take a public speaking class, take him!!

Comment:

Bates is an amazing professor who clearly tells you what is required for each assignment & is very approachable. There were 5 online quizzes which utilized a free online textbook and a few writing assignments based on videos of speeches and a documentary. There are a decent amount of speeches, but only two require thorough research and preparation.

He's very funny and is good if you are afraid to speak in front of people. However, if you are comfortable speaking in front of people, you won't learn anything new, it's an easy A. Kinda sucks that most of the class is just listening to people do speeches (it really sucks when people are bad/ nervous) but overall VERY easy

He would be rated as my favorite professor I have take this semester. He's super hilarious and makes every word interesting. He is a guy that teaches at multiple colleges and I respect him for that. Definitely take his class if you want to learn and pass. He is very easy to pas but you can't slack off or you will make this class look hard.

Bates? Gosh what a amazing teacher, he's super funny and very nice. Very approachable and super clear on his instructions and also shows you whats on the syllabus! Definitely helped me with my fear of speaking in front of class :)

Comment:

Assigns a lot of speeches, but only two require intensive research/preparation. Bates is a funny and approachable professor who really responds well to students who are willing to put in effort to his class. Always encourages students who are nervous about speaking in front of everyone.

He has a very dry sense of humor, so at first it was hard to tell if he was joking about something or not. He grades pretty easily and is encouraging with speeches, but there is a lot of speech prep to do. There is extra credit. As long as you do your work and present your speeches on time, this class will be pretty easy. No textbook necessary.

Rating profs? Not my thing. In fact this is my first rating. But you must understand that Ben Bates is so freaking awesome that I just have to rate his top-notch teaching skills. He helps take the daunting out of public speaking and knows what he's talking about. Plus, there is never a dull moment in this class. And did I mention he's hilarious?

Ben Bates is hilarious. I loved going to class. The speaking in front of people was horrible but being in that class made me feel a lot more comfortable with public speaking. There are two speeches which require a lot of research and time, but its not so bad looking back.

Best speech teacher at moorpark hes so funny and nice, if you're afraid of public speaking he totally understands and he creates such a comfortable environment for all of his students he grades based on your potential and what he thinks you are capable of, he just wants you to build your public speaking confidence and wants you to have fun.

I don't even know what to say about Bates. He's kind, funny, and totally amazing. He never skips the opportunity to joke or be amicable with the students in his classes. He's completely fair, only dropping people after they've missed like, 8 classes. He's also very socially conscious and makes it easy to be in class. Also 10/10 deserves that chili.

That chili pepper is no joke. Bates is definitely pretty spicy. He is super funny and makes the class a lot of fun and if you have a fear of public speaking, he understands and makes the atmosphere really comfortable. 10/10 would recommend.

Prof. Bates is a must take! Very funny guy, which gets you comfortable with him and the class which makes it so much easier to give your speeches. All quizzes are online, no tests, just 5 major speeches and about 3 writing assignments. Look no further for the speech professor of your dreams!

Professor Bates was a great teacher, giving helpful feedback. If you do the assignments you'll get an A. Attendance is important with the amount of information to cover. He has a great sense of humor which makes the class fun including the lectures. I would recommend this class to others. Syllabus is clear with assignments and points per task.

Professor Bates is absolutely amazing. He clearly enjoys his job and he cares so much about his students. He makes jokes to help make you more comfortable, and he doesn't take himself seriously. If you need help he is there for you. He is an important professor to take and I highly recommend him, especially if you are afraid of public speaking!

I'm not that good at public speaking but the lowest grade I've gotten on a speech is 98%. Definitely recommend, especially if public speaking isn't your thing.

this was my favorite class. hes a really good teacher and he makes the class fun. he knows what he is talking about, and its not hard if you come to class and do your speeches on time. he makes you circle your name if youre not ready to give the speech and its 10% off each time its late so be prepared !!

Great class! You will learn a lot. Giving speeches is scary but Prof Bates is very helpful and supportive. He actually makes the class fun. If you have your speeches and other assignments ready on time, you will do fine.
