Overall good teacher, expects very high quality writing from his students. I got a C in his class in my first semester at NOVA, but an A in ENG 112 when I took it a few semesters later (still not sure what to make of this). Highly recommended if you excel in writing and want critical feedback, but not so much if writing is not your strong point.

He gives short a quiz on the assigned reading material (which is usually short stories or poems) every class, but don't freak out. There is no analyzing in the quizzes, they are questions like: "what color was Clara's hair?" Just so he'll know if you actually did the homework or not, so make sure you ALWAYS read what he tell you to.

Verrry BAD & DIFFICULT teacher! Quizzes are so random, focuses on petty details and have no idea what it will be on. So far I know I'm not doing well even though I've always liked/been good at english. Have many assignments due in little time, with a huge paper coming up. Recommend you do not take him, save you the trouble. I wish i switched out

Ok so, this guy is totally hard. I love English, I was placed into honors English, but in his class I got a C! Like with many English teachers, it's about him liking your writing style or not, but he goes overboard. It;s like what the helk can you possibly do to get a good grade? He can be a nice guy...but not for English classes.

Yes, Mr. Harrison is hard, but you actually get something out of his class. If you want an easy A, don't take him, if you want to learn, then do take him. I got an A in his class but had to work for it. He is also pretty funny and opens the class up for interesting discussions. Even though he was tough, I enjoyed his class. taking him for 112

Got a c in his class, and an A in the higher level class. He expects each student to already be an excellent writer, and he grades based on that! Doesn't give instructions, then grade papers as if he has. NOT SUGGESTED!

His grading was RIDICULOUS! If he didn't agree with your opinion in papers or on a quiz, he would fail you. I don't think a single person passed in my class.

If you want to take a challenging course, study with this guy. Many people do not enjoy his class because they want to get an A with no effort. Trust Me, if you want to get an easy A, DO NOT take his class.

Hard but fair, you will learn a lot fast or you will sink. Reading all the negative comments on this page is really quite amusing. Harrison obviously enjoys teaching, enjoys the material, and works hard to help his students understand. Like I said before, you will learn a lot or you will sink- the choice is yours.

If you want to be spoon-fed, don't take his class. If you want to learn how to appreciate literature, do take his class. He is tough but fair..this is college, not middle school.

Mr. Harrison is an awesome teacher. He made poetry interesting to me for the first time, and made the literature come alive. Keep up with the reading and don't be affraid to answer questions and make comments. He likes it when you participate and try to be insiteful. He lets you know upfront what is expected.

There are a few words that may venture in ones mind after taking a semester of English with professor mister Harrison. I thought of him as being slightly unfair and diminishing. He literally devours any interest that you have had in the subject. He will consume your soul and**** on your dreams of becoming an English major.

Mr. Harrison is a very difficult teacher regardless of what the "know it all nerds" might say. The class is very interesting and there is a lot of class discussion, but he grades papers very harshly!! Expect to invest in a punctuation and grammar book before taking the class!!!!
