This is the best writing class I've taken. He really cares about our writing, and my writing improved the most in this class. He spends a lot of time on specific topics, but is really lenient with attendance and HW. I went like once a week and still got an A. The final project is the biggest grade, but it's super easy. He's a great professor!

Look he's nice but the class is a disorganized, unstructured, mess, there's no clear guidelines on assignments, and he doesn't know how talk about half the books he has you read, which are a lot of books. This was a pretty easy class but also one of the most frustrating I've ever taking.

Never attended any of his classes but read his book and watched his DVD "Building Great Sentences: Exploring the Writers Craft", and what I read was literally a Great Course offered by THE TEACHING COMPANY, and I got it for a fraction of the retail price and was worth every penny I paid and many times more.

Professor Landon relies pretty heavily on lectures, which can get tedious, but he really knows what he's talking about and really wants you to succeed. He's relatively funny and a pretty lenient grader, so if you pay attention and get all your assignments done, you probably won't have to worry much about your grade.

Although he does have a tendency to "talk at you" a lot, he's very knowledgeable in what he teaches and is actually pretty funny. His essay prompts can be a bit challenging, but I find that he's a very fair grader, and will really help you improve as a writer if you reach out to him in office hours. Awesome dude, loved him. Also super caring.

This teacher is honestly awesome. On the first day of class he told us it was really easy to get an A, all you had to do was read the books. You read a novel a week, and there is a pretty basic reading quiz on it. A few take home essays, and a final project. You honestly don't need to come to class regularly, and participation is not mandatory.

Brooks is the man. His classes are mostly for English majors or those interested in reading so if you dont like to dive into a good novel, he's not your guy. On the contrary, if you're a book worm and/or put in a marginal amount of effort you're almost guaranteed a good grade.

One of the most boring lecturers ever. The entire class battled sleep. He tries to be humorous, but it's a very dry humor. He's very knowledgeable about his topics, though. He also tells a lot of stories and goes off topic a lot.

The specific class I took was titled "The Perks, Promise, and (Possible) Perils of Being Digital" It was a very fun class that was mostly student discussion lead. If he had specific questions about something he would ask and he would sometimes lead the discussion, but he wanted us to share and interpret our experiences. Some essays on books.

My favorite class of the day. You never know what's going to come out of Professor Landon's mouth. He's probably one of my favorite professors, if you get a chance take a class with him. He's extremely smart and knows what he's talking about. He makes class interesting and keeps you engaged. Do the readings though, or suffer bad quiz grades.

His Topics in Pop. Culture class is unstructured, and it's a cluster of required readings and screenings that may or may not be on tests/quizzes. Moreover, his expectations given the heavy course load are unrealistic, and he expects you to come to the same conclusions as he does on the material. Never responds to student e-mails, even if important.

Very laid back with deadlines, which was nice but made you write tons of papers then only gave any sort of letter grade to the last two. It was frustrating to be putting so much effort into work that was just going to be commented on briefly and not count for anything. He also had a tendency to go off on tangents and take up the entire class.

Professor Landon is so entertaining that it almost hurts. He is completely OBSESSED with sentences, which seems ridiculous at first, but he makes it work! I learned so much about writing from this class. His classes WILL make you a better writer without you even realizing it. FANTASTIC. One of my favorite English Professors at Iowa.

I took this class as a "Great Courses" class (it is on CD.) I really liked him, but the class is no longer offered by the "Great Courses" company. The one thing I learned well: Invisible propositions create visible sentences! Well, there actually were many more things I learned.

He can be phenomenally condescending, assigns mountainous texts, and has weekly pop quizzes - yet, I still liked him. Maybe it's Stockholm Syndrome, or maybe it's the easy grading and his love of Doctor Who. If you don't mind someone seriously asking a class, "Now who knows who JFK was?" then by all means, take this class and get an A.

Absolutely hated this class. Changed my major because of it. Hated the readings. Professor is extremely conceited and full of himself and thinks he is smarter than everyone else. Makes everyone in my class feel like**** and dumb.
