Basic Comp is a difficult class, but Nelson will make it worse. He's a tough grader and doesn't say how to improve. If you ask him, he'll give you the same reply. He doesn't even say what he wants in your paper to get your desired grade. Very laid back; he should stop teaching. Useless from beginning to end.

Prof Nelson was an amazing person himself, very kind and respectful. He made corny jokes, but was still a cool guy. He will definitely make you think and will challenge you to the max. He does this however with good intentions, to prepare you for expos. He does give extensions. Take his class if you wanna enhance your writing - basic comp ppl!

He is BY FAR my favorite professor! He will gladly give you an extension, whatever the reason. Gave me extensions on every paper, one of which I didn't really need. He's a fair grader but will give you feedback to improve your next paper. I recommend taking Basic Comp with Dr Nelson. I wish he teaches expos next semester!

Very tough grader, but he is very helpful during office hours and gives good feedback. The class is definitely passable but make sure to read before classes because he likes to ask a lot of questions during lectures. He cares about his students.

I took Dr. Nelson my first semester at Rutgers and while the first paper didn't go as expected he helped me get my writing to where it needed to be. At first I was discouraged about being in this class but I'm leaving with nothing but admiration for having taken this class with Dr. Nelson.

He tends to talk too much for a long period of time so you might be extremely tired in his class. He is lenient about deadlines and he likes to help you! His grading, however, is pretty tough, he's nice enough to give you a 'not so terrible' grade, but get ready for lots of comments on your paper!

Excellent Teacher, Very Helpful,Supportive of his students, gets discussion of chapter topics started very well, gets every one of the students to work together at one point of another.Grades Fair. Made life seem less Hectic when I went to talk to him at office hours. I highly recommend Dr. Nelson for 100R and Expos alike!!!

Great professor. If you're willing to go to office hours, he's more than willing to help you. Not necessarily an easy grader, but he is definitely fair. And, relative to what I've heard about other expos profs, he's not bad at all. Anyone that put in a little effort passed, but I think there was only one A in my class. Highly recommended.

Nelson is a very fair grader. If you come to office hours and talk with him he is very insightful when it comes helping you develop new ideas for the paper. I recommend Nelson for any student taking 100R or 100....just beware you will get to know the elmo (class projector that is used for assignments) really well. Good Luck!

I had the privaledge of having Mr. Nelson for 100R and he was a great teacher. He is very interactive in class. As a class we particpated in many compter days where we would discuss many different ideas about the various readings and how to connect them. I was actually in a different 101 section but I switched when I found out that Nelson held 101.
