Comment:

Easy A, but a waste of your time if you're hoping to learn something. His lectures can go on for nearly 2 hours, but the only thing he presents in them is pictures of "good" and "bad" examples of design. Passionate about the subject, but outdated graphic design. Unclear grading criteria, and assigns projects without much thought.

Comment:

Carl's calligraphy/typography class was my favorite at Cabrillo. He knows a lot about the history and practice of lettering. It's inspiring and fun. Take his class!!! You won't regret it.

Comment:

I took Carl for graphic design and typography and wish he taught more classes at Cabrillo. I found his passion for the subject matter to be inspiring and contagious. I liked that the class was designed to encourage us to use our imaginations and create what we wanted more often then to exact specifications. While it's unlikely to be what we will see in the real world, it made me want to work harder and use my imagination more than any class has before.

what are you guys talking about? carl is the best teacher i ever had, kinda. he is suuper good at lettering, you toys just dont know what your talking about. it is a boring class a lot of the time, and is hard to attend daily

I feel like I learned absolutely NOTHING from this man. He frequently put down the students by making sarcastic remarks about their work in class. My motivation level was below 0! He seriously needs to update his materials because after the 4th slide show of dated graphic design I was ready to poke my eyes out with my pencil.

he was cool and is a master at lettering, but I don't think that he's a good designer. Knows what good design is, but can't do it himself. take him before you go to an accredited college.
