Best class at Cabrillo, hands down. Stan really cares about each student and takes you seriously. This course propelled me to take action to support indigenous sovereignty, as relevant to my local community and my field of study. I am extremely grateful to have had an educational experience that so positively and concretely impacted my life.

I loved Stan's class. I hadn't taken an English class in years and was a bit uneasy going in, but what he cares about is earnest engagement with the readings and topics. There is a good amount of reading but not unmanageable. I loved all the books we read. I learned new things about history and the nature of the world we live in. Highly recommend

Stan Rushworth is an anomaly of a teacher. He puts in great effort to respond to each student individually, & encourages people to explore the material in an authentic and engaging way. I feel privileged to have taken his class, & am truly inspired by the energy he gives to his students. THIS is what education is all about. ALL THE STARS FOR STAN!!

Stan has been doing this a long time - he really knows the material and he expects you to engage deeply, with your heart as well as your mind. You have the opportunity to be deeply changed by these writers and by this teacher, to look at the genocidal history of the U.S. and consider what it means going forward. This class should be mandatory!

Stan Rushworth was by far one of the best professors I have ever had, his feedback and prompts really helped my writing. He pays much more attention to the concepts, ideas and structure of the writing than the overall composition. This helped me really enjoy the writing assignments and I felt like I truly flourished as a writer.

He's a pretty nice guy and a good teacher by all means. However, I did the most reading I have EVER done in ANY class in this class. He assumes that everyone is an english major like himself and wants us to be on a "UC" level when it comes to reading. That being said, when taking this class, do not expect an easy A, because.

Stan's class does absolutely amazing things for people... It opened myself and my peers up to huge concepts that continue to effect us profoundly, every day. This class is an absolute must for people aspiring to become more adept writers. Also, look into taking his English 1B & 2 classes.

I haven't taken a class from Stan in 15 years, but I had to reiterate what all the other ratings are saying. After all these years, I'm still grateful for Stan's encouragement and guidance as I learned to be a better writer and critical thinker. Because that's what he does, he makes you a better person. Everyone should take a class from him.

BEST instructor EVER! Genuine, honest, real and teaches what needs to be TAUGHT - not what some requirement tells him to teach! Even though he accomplishes that too. He challenges everything you've ever been 'taught' both in the classroom and in society. This takes courage and a sense of self that is rare and inspiring. Thank you Stan!

Lots of reading/writing in this class. There's interesting content, but it's pretty depressing. It gets a little repetitive after a while. The classes sometimes get a little dull and drag for on a bit, too. But Stan knows his stuff and is always very helpful and approachable. He really is an expert in his field and is an excellend teacher.

Best class I have EVER taken, and Stan is one of my personal heros. Consider very difficult subjects which are vital to the context of the world in which we live. I wish i had learned what stan teaches earlier: I would be a better person today. You grade yourself so its easy, but taking more responsibility makes the class much more rewarding. do it

Stan taught at UCSC about ten years ago. I took an American indian Lit class from him and as a Native person, found his information to be both emotionally and intellectually stimulating. He loves his topic and dares you to, too.

you write a couple of papers, and the class is very chill. the reading is a little on the hard side, and there is a lot of it, but he lets you rewrite papers until you get the grade you wanted. at the end of the semester you write a one page paper saying what grade you want and why. I got an A for both classes, I just asked.

This was a great class, and Stan is a dedicated and inspiring teacher. One of those rare teachers that loves the subject and teaching. It is not an easy class,he expects you to be responsible and keep up with the reading, but it is a manageable and enjoyable amount. He is a great writer and expects more from his students then dry academic papers.
