Professor MacGillivray is brilliant in what she teaches. Her biggest strength is precision and specificity in her knowledge which she shares with us. There was always a surprising moment every single time I came out of his class. She does not only teach the courses assigned to her but she also teaches us how to think through language of texts.

I can't believe the negative comments. She is an outstanding professor. She is clearly committed to student learning and approachable. I saw her working closely with students who struggled. Plenty of opportunities for extra credit. If you work hard, it will be worth it. I learned so much directly related to my research. Inspiring.

Tests are fairly easy, but you will probably have daily assignments and readings, as well as a end of semester project. She is very passionate but not very good at teaching concepts that are unfamiliar to most students. Rudely sarcastic at times.

Professor MacGillivray is one of a kind. She will make you work for your grade, but that is what college is about - it's not suppose to be easy. As a current and former student of hers, I have learned how to critically think and academically speak in ways I never imagined myself being able to do. She contributes to my growth tremendously.

I went into this class with mixed reviews I wish I had just steered clear. She's condescending and rude. Her expectations were made VERY clear on the first day, I almost didn't want to go back because of the way she spoke down to use and made us think we wouldn't do well in her course. Lots of reading, lots of discussion avoid if possible.

At first, I did not think I would like Professor MacGillivray but I learned to like and respect her as a mentor. She genuinely cares about her students and wants everyone to learn something from her class. If you expect to come to one of her class to get an easy A, she is not the professor sign up for because she makes you work for your grade.

Look, yes, Professor MacGillivray may sound irritated sometimes - she may sound condescending, or rude - but she is also a wonderful teacher. If you can't handle a dauntingly smart, compassionate, charismatic, female professor, then you shouldn't even consider this class. I question whether people would rag on a male professor to the same extent...

Do not let the negative reviews of this professor scare you away. She will challenge you, and you will have to work hard. These are not unreasonable expectations! I promise you that if you are willing to give her a chance you will learn more in her classes than many others.

SMR 4wk is intense but I learned SO much, & she offers unlimited EC. It was my first class with her & she is now my favorite professor - brilliant, SO articulate, she facilitates critical thinking & understanding, not just cramming info. If you are open to learn, you absolutely will. Haters can step. "Just like I told you, You Must Learn" (KRS ONE)

I took this class because I was legitimately interested in the course's subject material. Wish I hadn't!! The only thing I learned was how to keep my opinions to myself and sit for 3 hours listening to biased lectures. MacGillivray was always late to class (which goes against her super strict attendance policy) I wouldn't recommend taking her!

This teacher clearly does not care about teacher as she once did. I took this class in the summer, we sat in class for 2 hours going over vocabulary from the book. Her lectures were very opinion based, her opinion of course. She was not helpful and very much played favorites to the teachers pet.

I adore Dr. MacGillivray! I've taken several of her classes, and there has never been a professor who has impacted me more than she. It's impossible to not learn something every time you talk to her (if you have an open mind). Also, I work with her more this semester and we get along wonderfully, and I am male. She is obviously not a man-hater.

Professor MacGillivray is highly educated and sound in her field. Prior to attending her class, I knew nothing. After taking this course, I have learned SO MUCH! Advise you to take it. She is open and willing to help you, as long as you seek out for it, and the class is small, so you will gain a close experience with everyone!

She tries to scare people away the first day and makes everyone feel like they are going to do horrible, however this is not the case. She has a harsh personality and is intimidating but you will learn something in her class. If you are willing to put in the effort, you will be just fine. (I was so scared the first weeks of her but it ended up fine

Catherine *is* a feminist. She *is* hard. And she will teach you a lot if you are willing to listen. She is sexy, confident and not scared to challenge your opinions. Sometimes that scares people--men and women alike. Yes, you will work hard--what's wrong with that? And just to clarify, a feminist is someone who believes in the equality of women.

Excellent professor! Very intelligent and not afraid to speak her mind!! Do not judge her teaching because of her views!! She doesn't mess around with people who don't care about her classes, if you care and are interested she will take notice! She is very interesting and impacted me greatly!

Mac G is a hottie! You want to take her if you're considering Images of women in literature. She is always willing to go the extra mile to help you understand the material. Tests can be hard, but a couple hours of prep will take you far.
