His class is one where you actually have to work for your grade, he always reminds his students of ways to improve in his class. I actually started this class terribly, then I realized the class was not just cram and pour, you had to actually put effort and dedication to the work. No regrets!!!!!

Honestly worst professor I have ever had, teaches out of the book and skips around, does not go in depth, ur better off reading the book at home and doing the hw. Only way to make a decent grade is ur brilliant or this is ur only hard class and can dedicate 90% of ur time to it, and dont have a job, seek a therapists if ur not doing well

Don't take him. He is not a good professor. His lectures are difficult to understand and you are graded by a few things. In order to pass you have to rely on the textbook and the end of chapter problem homework. If you want to understand organic chemistry avoid him. He is a nice person, but he is not a good teacher.

Extremely difficult tests, and some of the questions are difficult to study for. Nothing about the class is unfair. However, English is is second language, so his explanations for the harder concepts are VERY difficult to follow. He passionate about chemistry, and he does care about the students. He is a great scientist, but a terrible teacher.

As someone with learning disabilities, this guy is one of the worst. Monotone, quiet, and accented english makes it difficult to process what he's saying. Draws examples of stuff on the board, but it's difficult to follow along without knowing the importance of any of it. Had to rely on the book and internet to survive.

Horrible. All he does is write stuff on the chalkboard (not legible all the time) and gives us 3 tests. There are pop quizzes for attendance (5%). He doesnt even reply to emails. He says the test is questions from the book but the book has over 100 problems so its impossible to memorize the questions.

He gives packets in the class to fill during his lecture. He also posts practice exams and holds review sessions to go over the answers. Learn and memorize from the lecture notes and practice exams. ALL your points are from three big tests. Little extra credit from clickers. Easy C. Difficult A, unless you have a strong background in biochemistry.

Presents the chapter material followed by many helpful examples. Requires heavy studying, but if you attend lecture and actually follow his advice to prepare for exams you will do well in the class considering the difficultly of the subject. Overall, really good professor.

He knows his stuff and actually teaches really well. The main big problem is that he is disorganized and doesn't have anything together. He uses Beans syllabus and notes but gives a different exam. Exam are easier but confusing on what material to study for since he doesn't follow the syllabus. All he says is to do problems on your own.

Gave out homework, but did not look at it, even though it said he would in the syllabus. Lectures were powerpoint and a snoozefest. You can understand what he is saying, but often it's nothing of importance. Take him if you mind teaching yourself, the exams are easy enough.

Orgo II at UH. This man does not care at all about his students. If you want easy exams with an instructor who does not care and you like to memorize stuff...this is your guy. Curve is nonexistent. Forget about the pop quizzes...not worth anything. Do yourself a favor, take Bean (hard exams, good curve,Teaches, helpful, an preps you for ACS final). This man doesn't know how to teach and is too busy to really care. Just do old exams and memorize named rxns and FIND the review sheet. GL

I am a chemical engineering major with 3.8 GPA. I took orgo I and got an A by teaching myself and printing out bean's worksheets. However Orgo II is more reaction synthesis and what not. Cai teaches the material slowly and gives examples. However, his lectures needs to be more organized. Ya'll can get an A by working really hard

I took dr. cai &thummel before. thummel is even more boring than cai. thummel will teach non-stop, trying 2 cover as many chapters as he can.cai teach slower, giving more examples in the class. Go to cai's exam review definitely helps!! thummel's review gives no study tips, it's better to do your own study without him

Dr. Cai is probably very smart, but should stick to research. You have to get used to his accent, and he comes to class poorly prepared. Good thing is organic chemistry is not a very hard subject to teach yourself if you are disciplined. Just work a ton of practice problems and you'll be OK!

Professor Cai tries hard but his class is horrid. You can't understand him which makes organic chemistry even harder. Take Bean or Tummel (even Albright is better tho not by alot).

Dr. Cai is smart but his accent maybe a problem sometimes. He tries his best to clarify things but it gets as hard as it can be. He curves but his tests can be challenging sometimes.Work the homework problems. Keep your attitude and Good Luck.He isn't organized when he is on the board so pay attention to what is going on.some students skip lectures.

It is true that he has accent, which is sth. that he can't change overnight. But he is nice and tries to help you whenever you are in need. I got both A in his Organic I and II. Coming to ask Q. during his office hour is helpful.
