This class is really dense. There is a ton of vocab and he talks alot. He is hard on students but he SERIOUSLY BREAKS IT DOWN FOR YOU. if you go to class you will pass. He says exactly what he is going to put on the test. EXACTLY. He doesnt offer extra credit but gives you extra points on written assignments if you impress him. I SAY TAKE THE CLASS

Expects a lot from you, but so long as you attend class and pay attention it's not too bad. You need to have to textbook, and take lots of notes... luckly when I took his intro to art history class he gave us extra credit work. The tests aren't bad, so long as you know the work. Very good teacher!

Not a terrible class. He's clearly an artist who teaches. He's not always completely clear but the text usually clarifies anything he didn't. The class before an exam he goes over just about everything that's gonna be on the exam, which is nice. Not a bad class, coming from someone who had VERY little interest in the history of art.

I hate history but I LOVED his class. It was 3hrs once a week and I always looked forward to. His stories are funny and interesting. He tells you things about history that most other teachers wouldn't. The class is easy, he give you a study guide for everything. He makes a big deal about being late but not so much near the end. TAKE THIS CLASS!!

He's a pretty cool guy, the makes the history of art interesting, make sure you're on time to class or else he will point you out or even refuse to let you in. He spells out what will be on the tests on the review. take good notes and make sure you read because he will ask folks about paintings. He sculpes some pretty cool art.

I have no clue how this teacher got a 4.1 in easiness... Are you kidding me. I mean dont get me wrong this guy was nice, but staying in class actually made me feel like I was in Highschool and he really gets off subject. Tests are hard with the reading. I NEED HOMEWORK TO HELP STUDY NOT JUST READING! Long chapters. I'm a 4.0 student who had to drop.

His history class is good, but you need to show up to class on time. He shows a lot of videos. His clay class is difficult, he is not very helpful and restricts your creativity. He does not prepare you with how many expenses some classes have or what is specifically required to succeed in the class.

I liked his style of teaching no ones right or wrong. He does assign homework!!! and if you listen to his lectures he tells you what he's putting on the mid-terms and finals. I think his class is great!!!

Comment:

Mr. Thiel is a great instructor (in addition to being one heck of an artist!). Class was always interesting. I learned a lot about the history of Art and art itself(how to look at art, techniques, etc). He is "Old-School" strict, but "New-School" hip...one of my favorite classes I have taken at Chabot. I highly recommend Mr. Thiel and Art History!

Loved Thiel! I didn't know how much I was missing out on in the art world. Great teacher, very informative, and funny! Never a dull moment in class. His tests are fairly easy as long as you study. Definitely recommend his class to everyone, even slightly interested in art.

One of those "don't judge a book by it's cover" guys. He's got amazing talent from what I was lucky enough to see, and is very knowledgable. Loads of interesting material, and makes you interested in the topics. He shows you that art appreciation is something to be proud of

Mr. Thiel is quite a character, he's very funny and very down to earth. His class is SOOO easy. I took art 10 with him, failed one test, didn't take the other test, and missed a lot of class, but I did all of his projects (that always had very straight-forward instructions) and I still got an A. He's wayyy easy, i would reccomend him for sure!

excellent teacher. Hes very clear in communicating exactly what he expects for each project and clearly defines every term that is going to be on the exam. i did not buy a book and i got As on the tests. theres also something about him that makes him really attractive to me =)
