He is a smart guy but he is horrible at explaining to others. You are going to struggle so much in the class if finance isn't your strong suit. He is very disorganized, doesn't have any clear grading criteria, and doesn't give any chance for you to get your grades up if you are struggling. Do not recommend.

Comment:

Hess is my favorite professor at SPU. He might move a bit fast, but will always repeat himself or explain more if you ask. As long as you go to class and pay attention you should be just fine. Some complain that he hands out the study guide only days before, but ALL the info is on his slides & in class he'll tell you what to remember along the way.

He gives a study guide for the exams literally a couple of days before the exam with a million slides to study. He should give this out a week in advance. We have other things to do to in our life...

dr. hess is awesome - great prof. really nice to talk to. very helpful. the subject is a bit dry but he does all he can to make it interesting. he knows his stuff really well.

I enjoyed this prof he is a great guy with a great heart to teach. He can be dry at times but it does not help that he teaches some pretty dry classes. He is well versed in his business sense and very willing to help if YOU make an effort to ask for help

Comment:

Pretty disorganized and teaches straight from the book, while the tests are random as crap. I think Hess is too far removed from the workforce to understand how things are today-I think he has been away from real-life finance for almost 30 years. I was pretty bummed Hess turned out the way he did. Finance is my emphasis. :(
