Comment:

I won't forget Dana Piens. I think he is a great teacher. If you want to learn math from the bottom up, brush up, or learn some advanced algebra, he's your guy. I got a C in the class, but only due to skipping class so many times due to work. In the end he took the time to help me catch up. He helped me prepare for college algebra, Trig and Calc.

Very quirky man! Concise in what he taught with mannerisms and sayings that made you roll your eyes but you'll never forget them. I hate math but it made it easier coming everyday because I was curious what he was going to come up with. Nicest man with the true intention of helping students to think critically. Fair, kind, and helpful.

Comment:

Dana is really entertaining during his lectures, but get used to him repeating jokes and saying "ladies and gentlemen". He is very clear and will answer your questions thoroughly. His test are tough, but he is a fairly easy grader. The nice thing is he gives a break down of the test. Which is really nice for people with bad memories like me.

Dana is strict on showing up to class, but you get grade points for showing up. I was not happy I had to take this class because I'm pretty good at math. I just showed up took a few notes here and there on stuff I could brush up on. I didn't do anything outside of class due to not having homework. I earned an A with basically no effort.

Dana's heart is in the right place, but he can be condescending. He knows the material. He spends the first part of class saying how hard work is important. The phrase "ladies and gentleman" is used about 40xhour (I counted). His jokes make you groan. He CANT change his teaching style. If you dont understand you will have to teach yourself.

Dana is an excellent teacher with a fun sense of humor. He expects you to be an adult and take responsibility for your own learning; however, he is more than willing to help with any questions you have, all you gotta do is ask. Tests are hard but he is as easy grader. Dana made my first semester at RCTC an excellent one!

Dana is a great guy. He loves helping students. I don't learn that much from his teaching style though. He is very fast and sloppy. I find it difficult to keep up and ask questions. People like him because he grades very easy though. Not a bad choice if you have to take calc at rctc.

The best math teacher I've ever had! His teaching style is very helpful for me, because when I need math explained, he'll take the time to explain thoroughly! Don't hesitate to ask. If you don't ask, you don't get. In College Algebra, I needed all the help I could get, but his teaching helped me succeed! Be prepared for the work and dedication!

I'll say this much, college algebra is not easy. He has a quirky sense of humor that isn't too bad, keeps the class light at least. The guy is a math wizard and very helpful towards students who ask for it. He has a take home tests prior to the real ones, but don't let them fool you, the real ones are quite a bit harder. Complex fractions...

Dana is hands down the best math teacher I've ever had. I'm not exaggerating one bit. I learned so much in his class not only did i learn about math, but I also learned have to use critical thinking in real life. His sarcasm is hilarious in my opinion. Calc is a challenging class but with determination you can succeed. Dedicate yourself!

I took Calc 2 with Dana during the Summer '11. He is one of the nicest human being I have ever known. Has a wicked sense of humor and I love it! He is very helpful and is willing to go out of his way to accommodate you. If you have a chance to take a math class with Dana, do not hesitate!

This man loves math and loves to teach students. He is always there for his students. He has lots of time for office hours to help you out in a pinch. Although his tests can be difficult (material wise), his grading style makes it so it evens out. Make sure you do all your hmwk for E.C. and you will get an A.
