Comment:
He is a smart guy but the examples he does in class are the ones exactly from the book. It was hard to stay focused because he has a monotoned voice and doesn't speak too loud and also if you want to see what hes writing on the board then you need to sit very close to the front. Exams were the same as the reviews except for like 2 questions.

This course is way easier than I thought. The notes are all from the book. As long as you read through the whole book, you should be fine with this course. Soft voice, but still a nice professor. The homework assignments are really useful!

I have not learn anything in this class. Most of my learning comes from his assign HW, tutors, and the book. The way he teaches is hard to understand, he just writes on the board, makes 1 or 2 jokes. The test questions comes from his optional book problems, and his written HW. He curves freaking beautiful, but it dosent help learn the material.

Very tough to follow this professor. His lectures are theory based, and when he does work out a problem, mistakes are made. The homework was very tough, and would sometimes take me hours to figure out. On the other hand, the two tests were much easier. The final was the happy medium between the tests and homework.

This class isn't impossible, but it feels like one of the most difficult, even if you find math easy and love it like I do. He teaches straight out of the textbook, and the textbook is unnecessarily confusing, condescending, and assumes you know the material already. Use Dr. Strang's lectures from MIT with the textbook if you take this professor.

By far the worst math professor I've had. He shows us how to do calculations in class but expect us to do theoretical math on the homework. He ALWAYS makes arithmetic errors. I asked him after class if he could explain to me if this is a calculation based or theoretical based course. His answer verbatim, "I don't know how to answer your question."

Wagner isn't the type of professor that shows you how to do things. He expects you to already know how by the time you get to class. In class he really only shows you how to derive the proofs. The only reason I passed is because I had a TA that taught me the material. Do not take him unless you already know calc 3!

It seemed to me like he didn't know what he was doing, and using the textbook as his guide. When he forgets his notes, he doesn't know what he's teaching us. At least know the material before teaching us? He also makes a lot of arithmetic errors, and sometimes erases his examples before he's done teaching and forgets what the initial values were.

Comment:
Cal III is presumably easy. But Wagner just doesn't really teach. Rather than work examples, he proves all of the theorems. I only attend lecture to learn the bare-bones of the sections. Be prepared to learn most of it on your own and through homework, which is long and mandatory (you get 0% on the weekly quizzes if you don't do the HW).

Lectures are not helpful in general unless you are the type of person who enjoys learning about proofs and how to derive equations before getting to the main concept. The tests are straight forward. Everything you need to know is basically in the textbook. Homework is rather lengthy. Overall, self-teaching is the way to go in this class.

College is about learning how to learn, and his class test you over this concept. He was dry and monotone, so it was hard to understand him. Homework & quizzes were from the book & were not too hard. His test are easy if you TRULLY understand the concepts. I taught myself using the book, not the MIT lectures, and got an A. Learn to teach yourself!

I didn't think the class was as bad as the other reviewers made it seem, especially compared to the other math courses I've taken. Difficult homework and easy tests. His test reviews were very helpful. I liked him. I'd recommend him!

I Made an A! Yay~ I went to the first lecture and listened to my friend's suggestions, never went to class again, watch MIT lecture by myself, check his website often for homework due dates and quizzes and exam dates, totally on my own. Easy if you listen to doctor strange, if you attend wagner lecture, it just confuses you...so, good luck!

I was surprised that his surname is not Strange, Perhaps that can be his middle name. He watches doctor strange's MIT lecture like a million times and try to teach it to UH students. Not only did he fail to copy the MIT professor, doing a poor job explaining the material, he enjoy confusing the students and pretending that he knows the stuff.

This professor is just a copy cat, he copies off MIT lecture and when you go to his office and ask him to explain the material, he can only provide you with the solution, nothing else. Test are not hard. Attending Class is totally useless, if you want to do good, watch MIT Lecture and dont go to class. Talking about useless human being, that's him!

Prof Wagner seems to want students to succeed; his methods are good, but he just isn't very good at explaining things. If you're a "why" person or a "big picture" person, you will struggle in his class. He seems like he's trying to deliver the same lecture as the MIT videos, but doesn't do it well. MIT lectures are what got me through this class.

Please do yourself a favor and don't take him. He is the worst math professor for linear algebra. He styles his lectures after those of an MIT professor and still does not even achieve anywhere close to the quality of that MIT professor's lectures. If you attend his lectures, your mind is going to be spinning.

Pretty knowledgeable professor to have for linear algebra. Teaches the course through a great mix of example by derivation and problem solving examples. My only complaint is that he gives out quite a lot of homework that ultimately doesn't account for all that much of the final grade. Exams and final are not bad at all, though >90ish for and A.

Mixed bag. Stereotypical math prof: loves his subject, wants to share his excitement with you, absent-minded and easily distracted. He'll go off into tangents then say "Oh, I guess you don't know that yet" or "I forgot not all of you took Calc 3" .. or forget to stop when class is over. Homework is very hard, quizzes and tests not bad.
