His lectures are very thorough with dates that can be brought up from the back of his head. This Ancient Greece class only consisted of two exams and two papers, so that was literally it. To be more elaborate, the papers were 10% each, while the the exams were 60%. Attendance was not mandatory, but his lectures are so detailed than the book.

Prof Holt is very passionate and knowledgeable on his work. There are quizzes every week on the textbook reading (but you don't know if he will gibe the quiz on Tuesday or Thursday) so be prepared and read ahead. His tests revolve around his lectures so take good lecture notes. Very good class.

Prof. Holt is fantastic. Really has a passion for Greece in general, and it comes through in his lectures. There are not many assignments, but quizzes just about every week. They're very short and easy as long as you did the reading. 3 tests that are easy. Just attend lecture and do the assigned readings and you'll get an A

Best history professor in UH. He is an expert in the stuff he teaches and really explains the material well. His lectures are also very entertaining. You will read the entire book plus extra readings he assigns, but it is not too bad because the material is very interesting. The tests are not difficult if you pay attention to him in the lectures.

There are 4 homework assignments, and those are just easy one page essays based on lectures and readings. There are 3 exams with no final. Most of the class made A's on all exams and it is very straightforward. As long as you go to class everyday you will pass. Professor Holt has amazing lectures.

He is the Alexander the Great of Professors. The wisest man I know as well as the best professor I've ever taken. Crystal clear, his tests are from the lectures. He is challenging and will make your pay attention in class if you want to pass. Legendary teacher.

Dr. Holt's extensive knowledge of the ancient world is apparent in this course. His lectures are always interesting. There are a few homework assignments, but they're short, one page essays. The tests were a combination of fill in the blank, short answer, and essay and they come directly from the lectures.

Dr. Holt is an amazing teacher. The lectures pass by so fast because they are so interesting. His knowledge of history is outstanding. The class was fairly easy. Hw's were completion for the most part and the exams are directly from the lectures. Take good notes and study past reviews, (google: HIST 2361).

Best lecturer at UH. There are 6 homework papers (pretty easy) and 3 tests, that as long as you attend the lectures and take good note and study, you'll do well in. He gives extra credit and has been the best professor I've ever had.

The greatest professor of his time; he is a fantastic historian. He seems to know just about everything about whatever he teaches and clearly states if he doesn't. Teaches very passionately and could even list the Roman Emperors and their reigning years by memory. Must take professor with a well deserved reputation.

Best Professor I've ever had. Lecture's are incredibly interesting and Dr. Holt is hilarious. TA was super nice, grading was very fair. Lots of reading, but it was never too much. Tests aren't difficult as long as you pay attention in lecture. Offers extra credit, and there's very little homework (6 1-page essays), aside from the reading.

His lectures were amazing and very interesting. Exams are mostly essay questions with some fill in the blanks. The essay questions seem easy, but points are taken off for fine, extraneous details not related to the question. Despite that, I would take him again. His was my favorite class this semester.

Fairly easy class. If you attend and take notes you will pass and will never have to buy the book, He is very enthusiastic and funny, just a great teacher! There are no reviews for the test, but they aren't hard, test are TrueFalse, multiple choice, and short answer. There are 6 homework assignments that are also super easy.

You are really missing out if you don't take him, especially as a history major. He is amazingly engaging. By the time his lecture is over, you don't feel that you were there very long at all. His capstone courses are equally outstanding. His knowledge in ancient history, especially Greece and Alexander the Great, is stunning. TAKE HIM!!!!

By far the best professor at the University of Houston. I have taken him for 3 upper-level history classes now. His knowledge on Greek and Roman history is enormous, and he never fails to give interesting lectures. In his capstone course, he legitimately taught me to write a good research paper. If you don't take him, you're missing out.
