Comment:
Howard's course is very paper heavy, they are the only things assigned besides reading for the papers. He is easily the most dedicated professor I've had, he has so much experiences and is very passionate about his course. I would not recommend this course if you are not willing to read and write papers weekly. Attendance is taken most days.

Howard's a really solid guy, great professor, but he does expects a lot. He wants you taking notes, not sitting on your phone, and he does take attendance (at least at the beginning of a semester). Pay attention to the lectures, stay up with the readings, and you will definitely ace the exams. Take the time to get to know him, he's a cool guy!

I'm a history major and Howard was the first hist. professor I had at U.H. I'm really glad because he taught me how to write history papers. He doesn't just grade, he takes the time to leave detailed notes showing how to improve. I really respect him and his work and that made me want to be on time and do my best. He's a wonderful professor.

Passionate about subject. Does speak softly. Is a stickler about some things i.e. cell phones have to be OFF and he will note if people are surfing on web etc... BUT, is available to meet with you, returns grades within reasonable time, films were interesting, cool person. Has high expectations but wants you to learn. Must read! Exams not easy.

I don't know why people complained about Dr. Howard. It's a upper level class, so you will have to read and do work, but he makes the class very informative and states Cuba's history in a very organized and interesting way. He has traveled to Cuba several times and knows the countries diplomatic and cultural tradition. He grades paper fairly. A+++

I took this class based upon this site. I have built every other class upon this site and it has been accurate... until this man. I would like to warn ANYONE taking this class...Please spare yourself!!!! It is boring, biased and uninformative. I still don't understand how this professor got a good rating here.

Dr. Howard is an amazing professor that teaches with passion and really knows history. It's a capstone class, which requires lots of research. I must have spent weeks in the library researching and comprehending the material. Just do the reading and participate in class and you should do well. Also be on time, and turn off cell phones

Very passionate, but speaks very softly and is hard to hear. I had to drop his class because he tried to keep everyone late. Don't take this professor unless you want to stay late everyday.
