He just writes on the board with a chalk board and talks about the subject. Never was my thing and ended up having to read the entire chapter anyway so I just skipped class like 70% of the class. Does not really care about your grade, but will make the average of the class a B-. Final for me was free response no formula sheet.

Gunaratne in my opinion was not a good professor. His lectures were many times pointless as he would go on to explain few things in a very great detail, but at the end you would get nothing useful or relevant for you to use for homeworks or tests. If you end up taking him, better have access to the textbook and fully read it and comprehend it.

Lecture was used to discuss origin of formulas and theories, no actual application. Standard difficulty midterm exams but the final was free response with no formula sheet. In retrospect was very doable but just take a different prof and make it easier for yourself.

Don't take him at all! Once, I asked him if we are given a formula sheet for a midterm exam and he said "Yes even though I shouldn't give you one. You should know the formulas." All of his lectures are based around working out problems on a chalkboard so be prepared to read the textbook to actually learn the concepts

Really wants you to learn and cares about the student. Don't take his class if you make shortcuts just for a good grade. He's sometimes hard to understand but maths is an international language so the work problems makes sense and are helpful. Highly recommended!

Take him and you won't regret it. I took physics 1 and 2 with him without putting that much effort and still pulling off B's on both!

Do NOT expect to get much out of his lectures. He is a nice man and a BAD prof. He doesn't actually teach you anything, he just asks questions and expects you to come to these expert concusions on your own. You will need to do ALOT of outside self study to receive any kind of good grade. I recommend Khanacademy.com

Honestly one of the better physics professors at UH. Genuinely wants students to do well but has difficulty explaining some concepts. Starts out slow with very easy concepts (ie protons, electrons, velocity) but rushes through difficult ones. He also expects students to be proficient in calculus and deriving equations without first being shown.

He's an extremely nice man!!Really Helpful on a one-to-one basis, and wants his students to benefit and learn more than anything!!! His revies are kinda helpful, and attendance is mandatory if you want a good grade!! I took him for PHYS I and made an A, and I'm taking him for PHYS II!! Note: This class is not time consuming , either u get it or not

Forget class, time better spent studying. Claims he doesn't care about tests, that he just wants to teach us, so why so many tests(5) and why were questions so off base from what he was teaching? Worst case--test 4 was over NO material covered in class after last test. That was EVIL. He loves physics, no doubt, but his methods are questionable.

He is a pretty good prof. Do webct quizes online and practice exams because tests are very very similar to problems, do those and u can make an A

Great teacher. He has different approaches on explaining each topic. Ask questions if you need to. If you are willing to work, you will get what you deserve.

gunaratne was awesome. physics is a tough class no matter what. whoever you take, youre gonna have to study and do youre work. if youre willing to do that, youll really enjoy this class. he is also very passionate about physics in general and actually wants you to learn about it, not just memorize ****.

really disliked this class, he knows his stuff, but doesn't really know how to get it across to his students. tests are difficult, but he curves like a madman. if you want to get away with not studying, definitely do not take him! physics sucks

there are people who make an A in his class, and than those who make the pseudo "A" (due to the curve) in his class, either way its an easy A and easy class. great teach btw.
