His lectures can be a big boring sometimes, but he's a very likable guy. He's understanding, doesn't overwhelm you with assignments or readings, and provides good notes online that summarize the course material very well. I would take him as a prof again in a heartbeat.

His lectures might be boring as he merely reads over the notes. However, as long as you write your essays based on the precise understanding of the content of the course, you will be fine. Easy grader and respond to students' email shortly. He also posts his lecture notes on moodle which I found useful for reviewing and for my essay.

He seems like a good person, however his teaching abilities do not reflect that. He reads off his notes that he puts up on the projector (which happen to be in paragraph form), with the odd commentary here and there.

His rating proves a grade is not criteria for excellence. He even surpasses the classification of excellence since it's grounded to some degree in comparison and competition. Can't say whether he's as wise as Socrates or wiser but he's a mortal being who has had the personal experience and brings the concept of practice to the metaphysical realm.

Nice guy with a good knowledge of Greek texts and useful Greek words. He tends to digress a lot, but goes out of his way to make the ideas more accessible to contemporary minds. He seems to give out grades haphazardly...giving the majority the same grade with the exception of a few. Be sure to ask what he expects for the essays.

Highly competent scholar and helpful lecturer. Scan the reading (at least) before class then analyze it closely after he explicates the ideas of each of the PreSocratics. Their views will be useful in subsequent courses. They're presented clearly but ask him as many times as you need to expand on his explanations, arguments, and the evidences.

He's not so bad. His lectures may be a little boring but the content is apropos, and he tends to speak slowly enough that if you want to, you could have enough time to write down everything he says word for word. He may be hard to follow if you don't do the readings, but if you can't read ~600 pages you shouldn't take the course.

He's knowledgeable, but weird. His lectures are full of useful info, but hard to follow as he often gets excited/distracted and goes off on tangents. He's clearly very passionate about the course material. Also gives lots of reading.

very very good guy. not an excellent professor. Approachable and helpful... and very lenient, also one of the few profs that actually wants you to do well. tests are not hard at all and it's very easy to get an A just read the book and think when you write your essays that's it.

He's really passionate about Plato's Republic. He's a decent lecturer. He won't blow you away but he'll get you thinking if you pay attention. He's an above average seminar leader and likes to encourage discussion. He really wants his students to do well in his class and so will spend time with them on papers so they can improve grades. Good guy.

I took Prof Naddaf's class as a visiting student a few years ago and he is absolutely amazing. He probably gives a lot of reading but he is very clear on expectations. As for those who complain about marks and style, if you want to be spoon fed perhaps you should be in an intro chem course. Naddaf is all about content and depth..he knows his stuff

I don't understand why he has such a bad rating?? OBVIOUSLY knows his stuff and seems really passionate about it. Yes he does get off topic but its still interesting. If you don't pay attention throughout the whole lecture your not going to get it. I would recommend this class!

Has serious status issues. Everytime I email him, he corrects me insisting I refer to him as "PROFESSOR or DR. Gerard", what a freak. He is boring and annoying at the same time. Stopped attending lectures....

Whoa, a terrible lecturer. He is monotone, dry, and his lectures are extremely boring. He thinks to himself most of the time, and if it were not for his TA (Farzad Babadi) almost all students would fail.
