This class definitely takes a lot of time with reading, watching the films, and writing the responses but it doesn't feel like a lot if you enjoy the subject. She really reads everything and gives thoughtful and constructive feedback. One of my favorite teachers ever and we never even met in person.

Helen is an amazing teacher! I took her online course this semester and enjoyed each assignment every week! Her assignments are thoughtful and the material insightful. You can tell by her comments that she actually takes the time to read the work you did. I would definitely take a course of hers again.

Online Class with a really good text. Every assignment she gave good feedback and positive, constructive critique. Professor definitely knows her stuff. The homework wasn't too much because a lot of it was watching film to analyze- and you were given lots of choices. I found two new favorites in her suggestion making the whole course a win.

This was the perfect course to ease into for a returning online student and mom. Professor Fey's choice of text is a joy to read, her lecture notes are short and sweet, the movies are awesome, and the weekly assignment is a pleasure to write. The class requires a bit of self-drive, but her feedback makes it all worth while and keeps you focused.

The textbook is really interesting and well written with a clear knowledge of what people want to study. Her teaching is wonderful, she is clear, a good grader, encouraging, and helpful. She personalizes the grading responses which I think is incredibly helpful. If my major wasn't nearly completed I would switch to FS just because of her.

This class is very interesting, but when it comes to the teacher there are no clear cut questions in her assignments. They are confusing and jumbled. You have to solve a puzzle of word problems to finally get to the assignment. She does not teach on campus either so you can never meet with her to discuss anything.

I got to see so many great films and learned plenty of new things! She is a great teacher. She responds as soon as possible to any questions (although she is very clear about what she wants). Also, the feedback she gives you on assignments is always full length and really detailed. Take this class for an easy A and to ACTUALLY learn something.

Really great class. Online courses can be annoying but honestly Fey does a great job at keeping things engaging. You have to write around 800 words for each week and 1500 minimum for the 3 exams. Also she's very open to answering questions are grades quickly. Take her if possible!!

Her online courses are excellent! The material is relevant and the films are thought-provoking (you must find a way to view them on your own though). She has very helpful feedback, unlike other online professors, and quickly responds to questions. Her classes are not easy, but you get a lot out of them!

Took this class for an easy GE. That's not what I got. She's definitely pretentious and arrogant. Thats being said, I think I learned more in that class than any of my GEs. She's a very good teacher and is extremely knowledgeable. I'm minoring in Film Studies because of what she taught me. Great class but don't take her for an automatic A.

If your fulfilling your GE she wouldn't be your best choice, but if you're a film major and somewhat ambitious about the subject, take her! Tests aren't that hard although there're short essays but she's easy going on grading. As long as the basic ideas are mentioned it's at least a B paper. So...if you expect to learn, take her!

Not a terribly hard film class. The quizzes come straight from the book, almost word for word. The films are interesting, especially ones exploring sexuality. One paper due as the final. Helen isn't a very hard teacher and provides thought-provoking discussions. She looks like a female version of Tim Gunn and her voice is just as soothing.

She's one of the best in film at CC, her lecture's always clear and professional. Some may think she's uptight but i'll call it objectiveness since art is not absolute anyone could easily attaach an opinion to it and that could be usually misleading. For non-major the class coulb be harder than you thought, but for some who love film. TAKE HER!!!

Fey is very knowledgeable and passionate about films but she can be very moody and picks her favorite students in class. She offers no extra credit. Don't take her class if you are not a film major!

Very knowledgable about the world of film past and present. Very interesting lectures, with a good combo. of the technical and scholoarly aspects of film. Shes no joke when it comes to tests, but they are really not that hard. Best overall film teacher I've had!!!

Extremely knowledgeable in her field. I learned quite a bit while taking her Film Genres class & would recommend it to anyone. Used the BlueBook for midterm & final exams, wrote one paper on a film sub-genre that interests you & sometimes grades your film notes....so pay attention to the flicks!
