Conrad is a great teacher because he cares about his students and wants them to do well but at the same time he truly values education so you will learn in his classes

LOTS of reading, about 60 pages a day. You need to read every sentence. No skimming! Expect a pop quiz daily. Questions are usually about the smallest details i.e. a person who was mentioned in one sentence of the text. Participate as a class and he will go easier, doesn't grade often, and lots of homework. Extremely hard tests. Good luck!

Hardest, but best, professor I ever had. Even though I went to English rather than Theatre for my graduate work, he prepared me more for graduate school than all my other undergraduate classes combined. Hardest classes I ever had, but totally worth every bit of effort coaxed out of me.

If you are serious about Theatre then you will love this class. Hyrum knows that his class is hard and openly encourages working with classmates both in and outside of class. Honestly his dramatic structure class is one of the most useful courses I have ever taken in college.

Get ready for a challenge, but it will be worth it! This class I would recommend 10/10 to THEATRE STUDENTS. If you are not a theatre student, this class might not be for you as there is lots of HW and IPA that non-theatre students might not find useful.

Hyrum Conrad is a great choice for theatre students who want to learn and be challenged. This class is not a joke. This class is not an easy A. Hyrum will make you work for your grade, but you'll learn a lot in the process. This class taught me so much and Hyrum expects a lot, but he is also a great teacher and provides TONS of extra credit.

I personally love Hyrum. This class seems like it will be a lot, and it is. You have to read 8 plays and write 10 papers. It is a time commitment, but you learn so much, and Hyrum is actually just a kind, sarcastic Grandpa with a love for his students and a love for Theatre. If you want an easy A don't take this class from Hyrum. Otherwise... do it

One of the hardest teachers I have ever taken a class from, but I respect him and his high expectations. If you're willing to put in the work you'll pass and leave with a sense of accomplishment. He's tough but he doesn't hide that fact and at the end of the semester I learned a lot. I'd recommend taking his class to anyone

If you want to take this class to frolic through an acting course with an A, its not as easy as that. If you want a class that will teach you what it takes to act well, through hard work, this is it! Be sure to buy the PDF of the textbooks it makes searching for content and definitions much quicker. You are asked to read both textbooks. 300 pages .

Your relationship will be love/hate with Hyrum. He is brilliant and knows what he is talking about, but you really have to work hard and dedicate a lot of time to do well in this class. READ THE BOOK! JUST DO IT! If you are just taking Acting I for fun, take from a different prof. If you want to improve your craft. Take it from Hyrum.

This is by far one of the toughest classes I have ever taken. Very homework oriented. Felt like a 5 credit class instead of a 3 credit class. Read books if you can; otherwise, you search for hours. I asked to do Shakespeare instead of modern 1950-forward stuff. I got shot down hard. He assumes everyone is going into acting as a career.

I read reviews and talked to students and I was terrified to take him. Now I am SO grateful I did. If you care about acting and ARE WILLING TO WORK HARD, then take Conrad. He's not for everyone, but I learned so much and made leaps and bounds of progress because of him. There's a LOT of homework, but it was worth it. He gives the grade you deserve.

Lots of learning by teaching each other. He does not truly lecture. Tough, but willing to answer questions. He also made sure to have a study group set up. Lots o outside work, but I definitely learned a lot because I had to put in the effort to get the grade.

Conrad's brilliant. He really is. He'll definitely scare you at first but when it comes down to it he's a fantastic teacher. Don't get me wrong, this class is hard. You read the entire textbook and there are tons of tests, quizzes, and analyses that take some time. That being said, he gives lots of extra credit and you will definitely learn a lot.

Besides teaching IPA, most of what we learned was from reading HUGE amounts of textbooks. A large amount of class is spent literally lying on the floor. We did many ridiculous exercises that he didn't explain the purpose of. HUGE, frequent memorization assignments that seemed excessive. I'd say take this class with someone else.

It was mostly reading and class discussions; he didn't really teach as much as administer tests. He knew the materials and information inside and out, so if you asked him questions he could explain in detail but he wouldn't offer this information willingly. The tests are difficult, but he has mercy while grading. Intimidating, so work for it!

He was very harsh when grading, and he doesn't give papers back or use I-Learn. Unless you ask for your test specifically, it's hard to know where you're at grade-wise. There is lots of homework, and he takes the class very seriously. Sometimes you end up doing ridiculous things (They do help, though).

Lots of reading. Pop quizzes if he thinks you aren't reading. IN DEPTH analysis like you've never seen. Brother Conrad has a lot to teach and is very good at being direct and giving feedback. A little odd but kind. Certain he can hypnotize people in warm up sessions. Be prepared for a workout.

Probably one of the hardest classes that I have ever taken, and I feel that Brother Conrad was a major factor in that. He himself never taught the class that much. He paired us up and expected us to teach each other on what we read. It's hard to explain my frustration with the course in 200 characters or less, but i found his course frustrating.
