He basically reads from the textbook he wrote the entire class. His examples are unclear and he will not answer questions, he will steamroll over anyone who tries. His tests were very difficult and not based off his in class examples. If at all possible, take a different professor.

Comment:

Horrible teacher. On one test, I followed the proper technique but misread a poorly labelled diagram. Despite the fact I showed clear understanding of the material and utilization of the formulas, I lost 15 points, and when I tried to explain he said I dont care, its wrong. Absolutely horrible, worst teacher Ive ever had.

He is very hard to understand due to his accent. His tests are difficult because the questions are very specific and if you do not give him exactly what he is looking for, it is incorrect. Good luck!

He's a professor for students who want to become engineers, not students who are simply looking for easily pass .Most of the negative reviews are from undergraduates who do not care learning the fundamentals of soil mechanics that every engineer should have learned . He is by far a very good proffessor.

One of the worst. Really rude and mean. Terrible grader, he curves every class 40 points so you have no clue where you stand. He honestly doesn't know how to do a lot of the problems in the book without looking them up. He has never been outside of academia. They really need to replace this guy.

Not helpful at all, gives tests that where some things are completely useless. Doesn't like explaining things more than once. Deff. makes you feel like you are dumb.

Gives tests that don't assess your knowledge of material. Doesn't curve until the end of the semester so you never know where you stand. Very hard to understand. Unfortunately, if you're reading this, I doubt you have any other choice... So learn how to deal with him.

Dr. Ishibashi is hard to understand, like others have said, and his lectures are a bit dry. But read the book and takes notes and study the random stuff and you will do fine. He's usually pretty fair on tests.

This is a good professor despite the complaining of students. I had him for Materials and Soil Mechanics. He may be a little hard to understand at first, but after 3 weeks, I didn't even notice anymore.

Had him for Soils & Materials. He is terribly boring & impossible to understand due to his thick accent. Don't get me wrong, the guy is brilliant, but since he can't convey material easily the course is hard and a waste of time. Tests are never what you'd expect and he usually curves 30+ pts. In Materials, quizzes are randomly given for attendance.

You'll spend the whole class thinking "what did he say?" Almost not worth going to the classes. Does curve a ridiculous amount, otherwise everyone would fail. (except the nerdy kids)

Good news is...he does curve. Bad news...you'll need it. In his defense he does,try however his english is very poor. Try to pay attention to the details and you should do ok on his tests. He likes the little annoying PITA facts like dates and weird trivial type information.
