Professor Armstrong is a nice man, don't get me wrong. However, his lectures don't seem to align at all with what you read or what you're tested on, and are disorganized and mostly uninteresting. I took his History of Western Music class hoping it would focus on the history, and the textbook certainly does, but Armstrong's class does not.

In high school, I had an amazingly passionate and inspirational teacher. He was one of a kind, so when I took Dr. A's class, I was amazed to find that he is the same kind of teacher - he is committed to engaging every student and helping us along the way. His passion is infectious; I didn't know it was possible fall more deeply in love with music

I'm thinking back on my course with Dr. Armstrong as a teacher now. Even being slightly removed from college, I come back to say that Dr. Armstrong is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He talks down to students and doesn't consider their perspectives. I believe a capstone course should inspire discussion, but that WILL NOT happen with him.

This was probably my favorite class I've ever taken. Dr. Armstrong is an awesome professor. Extremely knowledgable about the subject and very enthusiastic the subject. Would recommend to anyone with interest in learning more about music.

I would honestly never recommend taking a class from Professor Armstrong. While he is very smart and understands a lot about musicology, he is a terrible professor. He grades harshly without much direction, he grades unfairly, and he goes on 30 minute rants, which rarely relate to the material.

Dr. Armstrong was a fantastic professor, he kept class interesting and relevant, but attendance, and the reading and listening he assigns is a MUST. No musical background is necessary, but an interest in music is a huge plus.

Dr. A was a great professor for me! I understand what people mean when they say that he goes off on tangents a lot, but for me it didn't affect my ability to perform well in the class. Take Dr. A's Faust seminar if you enjoy Romantic music, Faust, or both, but be prepared for a LOT of writing!

I don't know what anyone has against Dr. A - he is the sweetest man alive who is so passionate about what he does. While he is a bit of a scatterbrain sometimes, he is a wonderful musician to can bring some great music out of his choir.

Brilliant man, but on a completely different planet. If you are willing to do eternal reading and music and research in order to just be somewhat prepared for the vague questions he will ask and poor feedback on your work. He can be profound when he is intelligible. Don't take his courses lightly.

Dr. A knows his stuff, that's for sure. But choir sucks because of the way he does things. We only do pieces that he chooses for their academic value, as opposed to entertainment value. As a result, we put in 6 hours a week for a group that very rarely sings to audiences of more than 30. I quit.
