Comment:

Hess genuinely cares about the success of his students and goes out of the way to assure that he gives them a good opportunity to pass. He is also instantaneous with his email responses. I couldn't ask for a better professor.

Professor Hess is an excellent teacher. His class is not an ordinary speech class. He makes the speeches fun and has the whole class involved in a good way. Highly recommend this class and professor.

Professor Hess is a great Professor and is clearly very passionate about the subject. He provides a free online textbook to alleviate costs to the students, which is nice. There is a decent amount of homework, but as long as you give it effort, the class is very easy to pass.

Comment:

My favorite class thus far. The professor is amazing. You will have homework every week (but pretty easy). You have about 4 speeches but broken up an two groups which makes it easier to do if you have fears about public speaking. Highly recommend.

Dr. Hess was great. This class is not an easy A. You do have to work for your grade but he gives great feedback. I took this is a Hybrid class. I highly recommend this format. He understands you have a life outside of class so does not try to keep you in class more than necessary. Most of the work is done outside of class except for the speeches.

Dr. Hess is an excellent professor. The course load is not easy, it definitely keeps you on your toes, but as long as you're diligent it's very manageable. Dr. Hess was quick to respond to emails, and very available to answer questions. He has a great sense of humor and really made the class enjoyable.

Comment:

This class was absolutely awesome. You have to make sure you show up for your speaking times for your speech. The only assignment that was difficult was the mock PR speech. But everything was easy you have to take little quizzes that are timed but they are very easy. I'M SO GLAD I TOOK THIS CLASS.

Dr. Hess is a great professor. I took a 8 week hybrid course and as long as you participate in the speeches and complete the DB you will pass. I received a B in the course, if I hadn't missed a couple DB posts I would have gotten an A. If given the opportunity again, I will take another one of courses

The 8 week hybrid, only 4 mandatory classes and 4 speeches. Professor Hess definitely helps ease the tension that comes with giving speeches. Sometimes he is a little slow on responding to e-mails and his blackboard was a little confusing, but he is very understanding and genuinely wants to help. Definitely would recommend!

The professor was really clear in what he expects from his students, attendance is a MUST! However there are weekly quizzes and assignments, there are not hard just need to make sure you read the book and understand it before taking the quizzes.

I took this hybrid class during summer. I have put off speech forever but this class was painless. Lots of work because the class is so short. If you do all work you can get an A. Perfect for people who work a lot. You only have to go 4 classes. Dr. Hess is very helpful and you can tell he enjoys teaching this class. I would recommend him to anyone

His teaching methods are different. I took an 8 week hybrid with him and only had class once every 4 weeks. The speeches are hard or very long. I would recommend him to someone who works 40 hours like me. I had no problem getting an A in his class and i didnt have to stress over a lot of work and class time

Hybrid 6 week is not the way to take this class, but Hess really made the most out of the short period of time. Huge work load due to short term, but worth it. Knocked out speech class in 6 wk summer! Hess is the only way to go for Speech at FSCJ, for sure!! Very clear, great lectures, no fluff, all solid material! Highly recommend Hess, no doubt!

If you don't do anything else at FSCJ, please take Professor Hess' Speech class. He's an AMAZING instructor and a really cool dude. My course was Hybrid but I would've loved to have taken the class twice a week. I learned alot and he still loves what he does and it shows. He makes fun of the "Hot" rating but he gets a solid 10 in my book.

I loved Professor Hess! He's a wonderful teacher, I took his speech class and I was dreading it but he is comical and makes the subject very interesting. I would definitely take this course and any other class of his again. He's an easy grader as long as you do the work and show up. I enjoyed him and his class!

Dr. Hess is an educated man who has no problem reminding you of the fact. He can be a bit pretentious and purposefully has you introduce yourself the first day so he can boost his ego a bit while nonchalantly bragging about his accomplishments. Overall, the class was simple. I only took it because it was a required course.

Professor Hess is very nice, and quite funny. He was also very helpful and quick to answer any questions or address any problems (like nervousness). Some of the assignment instructions left a lot to be desired. I also would have preferred a paper book instead of having to stare at a computer screen to read the chapters for the quizzes.

Dr. Hess is awesome! 8 week hybrid class, we met 4 times. 3 speeches and the first one was introducing yourself. Lots of homework but nothing difficult. He provided a free online textbook. I think he said it is going up to $20. Mandatory class attendence on speech day and can't be late. Very laid back and makes you comfortable. Super nice guy!

This professor is AMAZING. I was terrified to take this class and he made it easy. I took the hybrid 8 week class, we met only 4 times. Follow his advice in the speech practices, he really knows his stuff. I would take him again if I needed another speech class. He is funny, helpful and keeps you calm. I loved this class!
