Sweater vests never looked so good. All joking aside, Carlevale teaches a tough subject, but if you study you'll do fine. Everything that is on the tests is stuff we talked about in class, he never adds random stuff to it just to throw you.

Carlevale is honestly one of the smartest professors I have ever had. He gives you clear instructions, but there's a lot to study so get ready to make quizletts or flashcards! He has started giving classes quizletts (especially if you ask for it). He comes across as a jerk sometimes, but you will learn a lot from him.

Very good professor. He won't test you on something he didn't say in class, so it's a really good idea to show up every class period. Hard class, but very engaging and interesting.

Very hard professor - kind of awkward but a very rewarding class and experience. He comes across as a hard ass but likes when students succeed in his class.

He's an outstanding professor. Engage the topics and study well, and don't forget to participate in discussions. I advise not to take a class with him necessarily because it will fill a requirement or even two--Take his classes because you're passionate about the topics, and ASK for help if you need it. Communication is our most precious gift.

Awesome professor! He definitely knows his stuff and presents it in a very interesting way. There is a lot of reading and note-cards involved but that is to be expected. Exams are not easy but he prepares you very well for them. He has a great sense of humor (which is above some people's heads) but keeps class and learning fun. One of my fav profs.

Dr. John Carlevale is a wonderful professor. Not only is he knowledgeable, but he is also respected in the community of classical studies and reception. He makes valiant efforts to view classics not only in their day and age, but also attempts to view them in modern reception. He is working toward what is needed further in classics in the US.

Dr. Carlevale is a hard professor but he knows what he's talking about. If you do the readings and pay attention to what goes on in the text and in class, you'll do fine. He is very honest and will tell you what he thinks, whether you want to hear it or not. He's not afraid to ask for the opinion of his students either.

Can come across as a jerk, so if you don't have thick skin, don't take him. No matter what do the assignments or you won't do well in the class and take full advantage of the study guides.

Dr. Carlevale is an excellent professor. Humorous, and honest (whether students want the truth or not), his knowledge and passion for classical languages and texts are best displayed in courses where he is allowed to exist in his element. Naturally, I find him a much better Latin professor than, say, general studies professor. Fantastic overall!

He is extremely demanding and expects a very high caliber of knowledge from you. He also expects that you have a good basis and understanding of the course before you even take it which is unfortunate. We used 8 books for his class and read every one of them. Do not take his class until you're passionately interested in the subject material.

Carlevale is an INCREDIBLY knowledgeable professor, and you can learn as much as you care to from him, if you can get past his attitude. He is very full of himself, and often times very condescending. Besides that, he's a great teacher, but not for the weak of heart. Only take his classes if you are interested in the subject.

Etymology of words - learned a heck of a lot - This guy even devised a game to help us learn (Logomachy) and hardly anyone dropped the class. Good sense of humor - brilliant - erudite - hot if you're into his type (nerdy intellectual)

Gives interesting assignments, but seems to be more subjective than you should be, and very strict on things that don't truly hold a purpose to enforce.

I think that Professor Carlevale is a smart guy who makes most of his course material understandable provided you pay attention. Yes, it is a pain sometimes doing all the assigned readings, but how else are you going to learn?!? You can't expect to spark note your way through college! There are some things you can't learn from the internet. . .
