Don't be fooled by the ratings on this website. I recently took Zarcone, and he is one of the most helpful art teachers I ever had! Frankly when you come in to class he might seem or act intimidating, or sarcastic but I believe it's for scaring off the people that don't think they'll have it easy. Trust me he's a nice guy!!!

Comment:

Take any other teacher for drawing if you want to learn how to draw! Zarcone doesn't teach necessary skills and techniques that a real professor would teach. Instead, he assigns busy work, criticizes students, and tells long, irrelevant personal stories that have nothing to do with art and everything to do with his own ego. Don't waste your time!

I wanted to take this class to kind of distract myself from the other classes I was taking. this has been one of the most stressful classes i had taken. His instructions aren't clear at all and he expects you to understand everything the first time he explains it. He's jokes are rude and hurtful towards students, he also has no filter!

Zarcone is the most rude art teacher I have ever encountered. Although he never went over the line, more times than not he seemed unable to give proper feedback. Upon asking him for help throughout the semester he would frequently laugh and belittle students work. Do not take his class unless you are familiar with art. Also doesn't care if sick.

He is a great professor. I found myself constantly getting out of my comfort zone. The class is competitive. I recommend that you have a basic understanding of each and every fundamental of design and drawing before taking his class. He is sarcastic. Take his class if you are serious about art. Dont take his class if you are too sensitive.

He is a great professor, gives good feedback on how the individual can improve and gives a lot of extra credit. But you need to show up to class and do all the work in order to get a good grade. He's chill and gives you enough time to finish projects. The drawings are time-consuming so try not to procrastinate.

Extremely rude professor! I dont recommend him at all! Basically, he doesnt teach anything! you just have to paint and he just hangs around and kills time! When you ask him a question, he doesnt explain anything and he makes fun of you!! He is tremendously discouraging professor!

Very rude to be honest, doesn't help very much. Had a criticism about most of my works wanted me to redo most. In a very ludicrous amount of time. Likes to make fun of students a lot and acts very arrogant. Uncomfortable to talk to someone who's hard to deal with like this professor

I took him over winter, he seems caring but. Most of the time we had to sit on floor or on uncomfortable broken woody chairs which it made me so uncomfortable. I had to drop the class in 3rd day after he ignored my questions...

Arrogant & pompous. If you try to talk to him about missing assignments, he will not take you seriously at all. I felt that he had little respect for the students, and was terrible at communicating how you could get a better grade in the class. While some of his expectations are very clear, he leaves most very vague. It's hard to ask for his help.

He is kind of arrogant, and seems proud of that. I don't think he helps much. Its more: figure out by urself. Too quick demos, not enough explanation. I don't see the point of some exercises, but after watching some youtube lectures on gesture drawing, his information started to make sense. He is not so awful, but I wouldn't recommend his class.

This was a good class. He shows you what he wants and then lets you do it. He gave our class lots of extra credit which added up to 1 grade higher so there is no reason to do bad in this class. If you don't like to draw and are looking for a easy "A" don't take John's class. You do have to do the work to get a good grade.
