Comment:
Many people take this class for the easy A. It is a discussion based class. If the class doesn't participate in discussions, Martin just lectures which is super boring. My class rarely participated. Reading notes due every week. One large or two short papers due. Interesting subject matter.

Nice guy. A lot of ready but no tests or quizzes. Most of the grade is based on two research papers.

For an 100 level course you have a ton of reading to do. Reading notes due basically every class and class discussions can be very boring. No tests or quizzes and one big paper due at the end of the semester.

Decent Professor who struggles to be objective. Very liberal and it is apparent. That said, great guy who clearly enjoys the subject matter. He will help you whenever you need it if you put in the effort.

The Socratic-nature of Dr. Martin's class helps create a thought-provoking and deliberative environment. Dr. Martin is extremely knowledgeable and respectful to all of his students' opinions. To any student who is eager and willing to learn, I highly recommend this professor.

Jonathan Martin is on the odd side for professors. He has shot me down a few times because of my difference in opinion or ignored me. He has extensive knowledge of sociology. Don't like homework? Do not take him. He has you do "Reading Notes" every week and they are painful to have to type out. Long paper. Definitely an easy A.

He is very easy. There are hw on the readings but you don't even have to read like that, you can literally skim and b.s the answers. No tests. No quizzes. But you have to show up to class because he grades you on participation. Ugh, but his class is so dry and boring. But I would take him again since it's an easy class.

If you have a difference in opinion, he shrugs you off. Even if you bring in sourced documentation. Doesn't seem to appreciate the military. And requires you to keep track of your participation. He can be frustrating. Many of us speculate if he comes to class high.

He can be extremely boring at times. Lectures with a lot of different stats but when it gets down to everything, this class is so easy. He really knows his stuff even if it is rather opinionated. Homework is reading notes so be prepared and participate! 1 or 2 papers and participation are your grade.

Utterly useless professor, and class. Martin has no concept of how to teach, and often enough interrupts the natural learning process to tell you that "We will be discussing that in the second half of the class." I can honestly say that every time every time I went to this class I lost some knowledge and will to learn. Easy A, painful experience.

Professor Martin... is the best. You'll almost feel awful for him because people TRY to step all over him, but he doesn't have time to argue with immature people. JONATHAN MARTIN RULES ALL BY BEATING HATE WITH LOVE

Even though he tries hard not to show it, you can always tell what his personal opinions are. Sometimes he can even be somewhat biased in discussions. Boring class (and I'm a sociology major). Lots of movies, 1 or 2 papers depending on your choice, makes you take notes a specific way. All your homework is reading notes. Must participate!!!!

A really nice professor. If you have questions he clarifies without any negative attitude. No tests, no quizzes, many movies. The only homework was weekly chapter notes check (you only needed half a page to get a perfect grade). Very fun class and his methods of teaching definitely got me interested in the subject matter!

My 1st teacher as a freshman, made my college experience very good. Laid back, but a fair grader. A lot of class participation will go on, I think HW was just to take notes lol, and the term paper is either 1 12 page or 2 6 pages, your choice. He said I was hard on myself and gave a better grade than I would give myself, go figure.

Don't expect clarity or objectivity. He is a hippy and you will want to bang your head against the wall as he tries to start little discussions about oppression that are really times for him to tell you in a sad voice how brainwashed you are by corporations and the media. Lazy thinking. Lazy prof. Insanely easy class tho

Professor Martin is great. The class is incredibly easy, just take the notes for homework, participate at least once per class, and do the final paper, guaranteed A. No tests ever, several movies. Attendance is a self check out at the end of class so if you give yourself several checks you can skip a class or two ;)

Prof. Martin is a very easy going guy. You check your own name off for attendance at the end of class so if you're late it doesn't really matter. One grade for the whole class which is either 2 6 page papers or 1 12 page. Lots of class participation. Overall easy class. Hes nice though so dont abuse the privledge of having a nice professor
