Good prof. Very knowledgable about Africa, engaging lecturer. She is a pretty hard grader, but gives an absurd amount of extra credit, so it's not too difficult to get an A. Kind of kooky, and will occasionally go off on random tangents that expose this.

Comment:

Dr. K is one of the best professors I've had at UH. Her passion for African history is prevalent. There's a lot of reading (2 or 3 20pg-articles a week) all on blackboard, and no book. You MUST read and do the work and you'll pass, easily.

Comment:

Dr. K is an excellent professor that truly wishes for the student to grasp the material as opposed to studying for a grade. Good lectures with some discussions. There was no textbook, just 3 five page essays and true/false quizzes on assigned books, strongly recommend reading to understand. Work hard on essays because she loves good writing.

I took both of her classes (ancient and modern africa) and they were amazing. Her lectures are great, and I learned a ton about Africa. She is an expert at her subject matter, and is very passionate as well. Be prepared to work though. She assigns written homework, expects you to keep up with reading, and assigns several large papers. A MUST TAKE!!

Dr.Klieman is an amazing professor. From day one it was clear that she has a passion and respect for her subject and expects the same from all of her students. The coursework was challenging but worth it; I learned so much!

I loved this class. She is an amazing professor and UH is lucky to have her. It IS a lot of work, but it's definatly one of the most interesting and memorable classes I've ever had. Everyone should take a class with Dr. Kleiman!

Dr. K is a fun person-maybe comes off strict at first but really quite kind and willing to work with anyone who takes the class seriously. Classes are a lot of work but nothing any college student shouldn't be able to handle.

I enjoyed her class. You do have to work for the grade, but I learned a great deal in her class. If you enjoy history and don't mind doing the work it should require, then take this class. It's not hard, but definitely not a blow off. She taught me things about Africa, which I had no idea of before. I recommend taking this class.

Professor Kleiman expected too much from students. The books do not help you understand the subject, and her lectures are boring. Do not take her because her exams are too difficult to answer in class. Her grading is alos too demanding.

Kleiman was very demanding as far as reading. She graded very hard. Her lectures were actually interesting, but her exams were too diffucult. also the paper was too long.

The professor is very strict with grading papers. She comments too much on little mistakes and takes off too much. Class was interesting but too many assignments and reading. She assigns three books to read and readings from Jstore/CD readings. I would not take her

I took the class because I needed a history to fill my schedule but I ended up getting a lot from her lectures. I'm even taking her again for Africa and the Oil Industry. She's helpful and very passionate about what she teaches. A lot of reading but all the material is discussed. We have about 10 quizzes throughout the semester. Midterm and final.

Great Professor!! Her lectures are very interesting, and even the books she required were overall interesting. Exams are ID and Essay, and she required a final paper, but if you go to class, you will do fine!
