She is very vague on all her assignments and does not give good feedback. I would constantly ask if this was what she was looking for and she said yes but then my grade was not good when I got it back. There are discussions 3x a week too. Law paper and security plan were hard and had no direction.

First time I have taken a hybrid course, and it was rough. Mrs. Winters attended about four of the scheduled classes. She is combative when asked for assistance, and her general lack of preparation shows in the numerous typos and errors in the course materials. Half way through the semester she no longer even provided notes or slides.

This was my first hybrid class and boy what a start. Our class meets once a week for lab and Ms. Winters has attended once. The professor's assignments are ambiguous, and rather than assisting us, she would rather tell us how bad our class is doing as a whole. This is Ms. Winters first year teaching a hybrid class and it shows in her lack of prep.

If you need help with a concept or with an assignment, it's great to go to her office and she helps clarify the material. She's letting me resubmit a lab because of my misunderstanding with the chapter in the firsthand. She's very sweet and she's willing to help if you go to her office.

I haven't had Winters before, I was a little hesitant to take a class with her since her rating was so low. I've gone to her for advising and she was really helpful, and the class is a hybrid one. However, she's hardly present during labs, doesn't seem adequate for running a course online. Her lecture slides have typos everywhere. Disappointed.

This class is required for my major, I had no interest/background in computer science. It was difficult for me to understand her directions and decode her questions because there are always bad grammar and typos. I eventually began turning in half done things because I didn't get it, but she clearly doesn't check work because I still received A's.

She is a very inconsistent grader. The class I took was online, but shouldn't have been as difficult to understand as she made it. She made errors in each announcement she posted and her instructions were vague and nonsensical. She basically doesn't teach, but only tells you what to do and expects excellence. Changing my major because of her.

She is an A+ human being. I have serious medical issues, and she made sure that I had the help and support that I needed to finish her classes. She even drove me to doctor appointments when I needed them. If you need help, go in there and talk to her. You may need to restate your question a couple of times--go ahead and do that. She'll help.

Kathy is a great teacher for introduction computer science. She is clear, consise, and very helpful. Tests aren't too tough, and lectures are not boring. There is a weekly lab for this course.

Comment:
Teacher is inconsistent with grading, deadlines, and expectations. All the material she gives us is filled with spelling and grammar errors. Gives assignments with very little information on what to do, and holds them to high, arbitrary expectations. She's rude, and belittles other students in class. The class should be listed as a business class.

Prior programming experience will make this class a breeze, but if not, get ready to work. Tests are challenging, but shouldn't be too hard if you take good notes and practice. A lot. Prof. Winters is rather impatient and can be rude towards students when they ask what she sees as a dumb question. Take someone else if at all possible.

Extremely rude and condescending towards students. Should've retired years ago. This intro level class was one of the hardest I've ever had to work. Like someone said earlier, you basically need prior programming knowledge to succeed (which I didn't have) or else you will work VERY HARD in this class. Avoid if at all possible.

Her labs have nothing to do with the class and what she teaches. She constantly makes errors and refuses to admit them. She is unhelpful and gets frustrated with students. UTC needs to rid of professors like her

Terrible!! She expects you to write programs perfectly at an introductory level course. She is not helpful and is very rude. She herself even stalls a lot when programming, but criticizes others. Do not take!

It's true what everyone says, prior knowledge of programming will help immensely. If you are new to programming, be prepared to put forth a lot of effort learning from the ground up. Tests are EASY, straight from homework and labs. You CANNOT get behind. Keep up and it's easy.

Her lectures are relatively easy to understand but if you don't already have a basic knowledge of programming it will be very hard. She often makes people feel stupid when they ask questions and isn't very friendly. I made an A- just because I already have a lot of programming skill.

I loved this class. Professor Winters is a great teacher who is there to help. You have to do a lot of outside reading, but if you do, the class is not hard at all. The labs are sometimes difficult, but you can usually finish them in lab. After taking this class, I decided to double major in computer science I wish I could take from Winters again!

I was very excited about learning about computer science. After being in this class my views on it changed. for someone who has no experience at all, she does a terrible job introducing them to this subject. You are mostly on your own when it comes to learning the material. The labs are even worse, because most of the material wasn't covered prior.

Stubborn old lady doesn't know how to teach. She should have retired years ago. I will never take her again. She words her questions strangely and teaches the most useless information from the text. When you ask her a question she makes you feel stupid and tells you the answer is in the 1000+ paged book.
