He's a hard grader, but that's par for the course in architecture. He's probably one of the professors you'll get by with the most mistakes with. Super laid back and let's you redo any project at any time, plus his workload tends to be lower than the other professors. Expects you to be an independent thinker and come up with solutions on your own.

I honestly almost failed this studio as I didn't finish some projects and skipped a ton of class. Kirkland had a 1-on-1 with me in which he helped me figure things out as well as gave me a second chance to prove myself. For that I am forever grateful. If you want feedback, you have to directly approach him though. He's hard to read but really cares

Kirkland is the most lenient grader of freshman studios, but he still points out things in your final projects that he hinted at earlier as comments. If you are in honors you automatically get him first semester of freshmen year. On all studios, it is in your best interest to be there.

I found Kirkland to be a good, funny, and easy to get along with teacher. He's one of those teachers that ones needs to start of with a 'bang' otherwise it'll be hard to catch up. He'll help you if you ask and only if you have something to show. I really recommend Kirkland for anyone.

One of the best teachers I have ever had. Very inspiring, very patient, very clear and very fair. I learnt everything I know about architecture from this teacher, and I have had several teachers after him.

He puts a little too much emphasis on craft and neatness but he is a great teacher...if u got him, u will learn a lot. He teaches Honors Architecture and he is also the associate Dean. Good Luck :)!

Prof. Kirkland's class is like an orgasm for your mind made of chip board and Elmer's glue. He is extremely helpful, and allows students to explore different ideas most other professors would not allow. And he's sexy...

I disagree with the statement that Lannis is out-of-touch. I feel he was a very helpful professor, and very understanding to the way a young architect would work. I feel that overall, he provided a very nurturing environment for first-year students. It was up to you to make the best of it.
