He's a very sweet guy, he just does all the grading the old fashioned way (by hand) so you wont know your grade unless you stay after class and ask him. He's very lenient and offers a lot of extra credit, his voice kinda put me to sleep and i learned more from the textbook and exam reviews than his lectures.

Comment:

He cares, unlike some teachers. He is not an easy A but just do the work and you'll get an A. What I love about this teacher is that he is passionate about what he teaches and that's what makes the difference. I believe you're better off taking this class.

Comment:

Overall a great professor! He may run off course during lecture but he is very knowledgable and answers any questions you may have. There are 3 essays, 6 scheduled quizzes, 3 exams including the final and lots of homework. The work load can be a little heavy so as long as you can keep up, you should do fine. Gook luck!

I understand that Philosophy isn't the easiest subject to teach, but Gentry barely teaches at all. Most lectures aren't even given by him, they are presented by students, which made everything very confusing. 3 essays total in which are very difficult and graded tough. It's clear Gentry loves philosophy, just not sure he should be teaching it.

I love the fact that he cares about helping his students so much. Although learning philosophy itself may be a difficult subject, he engages you into wanting to try to understand. He is very helpful!

Never had time for students except outside of class. VERY BAD TIME MANAGEMENT.Lectures were unclear since it was given by students, and when he did talk about the lecture, it was not as if he was talking to an intro class but someone that should already know what he was talking about. Do not take him if a teacher is a big part of how you learn.

Awful teacher. I've never hated an educator until his class. Gentry is unorganized. Unhelpful. RUDE. Always runs out of class time and shows up late. Never lectures but tests you as if he does. Makes the students lecture by requiring presentations. Do not take this class. It'll just piss you off and stress you out.

Professor Gentry.. is interesting, and not in the way to keep you "un-bored" for the length of the class. He barely lectures, instead he makes the student make an "outline" out of the week's reading and have them present it in front of the class, hence sometimes the material is really confusing.

This class was much more fun than his intro class! He requires you to attend religious services and immerse yourself into each so you learn first-hand about the religions. Outlines are easy if you keep up with them, tests slightly difficult but he gives study guides, essays & final group project were easy because guidelines were clear.

I love professor Gentry as a person, but his intro to Philosophy class was extremely hard for me. He is a great guy, grandfatherly-like. 3 big essays throughout that he grades pretty tough. CLEAR study guides made exams a breeze!!! Exam essay questions were exact same as on the study guide! The concepts are hard so be ready to read and study!

Bias. Extremely bias. I didn't catch on until I really started listening to his lectures. This guy is a fanatic with philosophy. He literally preaches that philosophy is the greatest thing. VERY annoying. More than a quarter of the students dropped this course in the 2nd month. Very boring. Contradicting. BIAS. ...

Comment:

Took this with a friend (who I tutored). He was nice up 'til we had to apply critical thinking skills to the issue of gay marriage. He was rude after. Later he spoke to us both, telling my friend that she was smart; "just study more". I was there way more than her, but to him I was just "lazy." Lectures are often confusing, so be sure to read.
