I had Benson for a women's study class on China. She is difficult to follow in her lectures as she jumps around a lot. You think she is talking about subject A and then you find out she changed to subject B. She is also a big liberal who gave us a 10 minute lecture on who to vote for. I paid for a History class, not her political opinion.

Nice Lady. Very repetitive!! And boring! Sometimes she'll say something interesting and then bores you all over again. MUST GO TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES- don't and you fail. Also repeats EVERYTHING to the point of annoying you. But otherwise, not a horrible class.

Took a Chinese history course hoping to learn about China, instead she wanted to touch on every country surrounding it. Had to buy books she wrote as well, which is sort of like doubling dipping on broke college kids. I felt she did not want to teach the course as described. I also felt her knowledge of the area was a bit over-inflated.

Benson is phenominal. If you have any interest in Chinese history, you need to take some courses with her. Enlightening, charming, intelectual. She is hard, she wants you to actually read her books and do some research on occasion. Hi, welcome to college!

I had this professor for two classes and I would take her again if I could. Do the reading, go to class and you will pass easily. She is just a wonderful person and great to listen to. She mixes personal experience in with her lectures and it makes it so much better.

Professor Benson is a wonderful professor. Always interesting and eager to help, she is a patient and understanding person. She wants her students to pass, but isn't going to give any handouts. I can't recommend this professor enough!

this class takes a LOT of studying but shes very interesting and she makes u take a TON of notes. Very good teacher- thorough explanations! this isnt a blowoff class though!

totally was lost in class.. and the fact that she always kept speaking chinese to the class was UNIMAGINABLE. wtf! i thought we were supposed to learn about CHINA, the COUNTRY... if i wanted to learn to speak chinese i would have taken a chinese speaking class

Prof Benson is a bit unorganized as she repeats information already provided in previous classes. She also needs to get a hold of her class as students talk during class and ignore her. She is also very anti-Bush and expressed her political opinions which had nothing to do with the class. She also checks all cited sources so don't plagerize.

I really enjoyed her class. She talks the whole time, but she is extremely knowledgeable and makes learning Chinese history interesting. Taking this class actually increased my interest. Tests are somewhat difficult (essay parts), but she gives a study guide. Definitely attend every class, your notes are all you need. I would take her again.

Prof. Benson takes this intro class way too seriously. She is a very nice lady but she made us read 2 novels.. one was over 500 pages, we had 3 major exams with information on little things in the text and 2 quizzes, one on the Chinese Language and one on Geography.. expects a little too much..

I heart prof. benson! She is knowlegeable in her subject matter and keeps her lectures interesting. As long as you take good notes and go to class you'll do well. She even tells you what parts of the reading will be on the tests. I would reccomend her to anyone!
