I really don't understand why Dr. Rea is teaching this class. He is clearly very skilled at statistics and public policy research but he is not well-versed in criminal justice research. SDSU really needs to get someone else to teach this class instead. Pretty easy, some statistics can be tough but he explains well enough. Average professor

Comment:

3 tests: 20%, 30% & 40% of your grade. The other 10 is participation. Attendance isnt mandatory but he takes it everyday. Tests are completely written so you can get credit if he thinks what you wrote is generally correct. First half of the class is like a stats class. I would get the textbook, 2nd test is open book. Notecard on final. Easy tbh.

Do not take 540 with Rea. His class is extremely boring w/ mostly statistics work & random criminal justice topics crammed in at the end w/ no relevance to the class. tests are completely written. 2/3 open book, open note but he grades you down a lot for stupid things like the answer not being word for word the way he wants it.

Comment:

Class gets boring but he never kept class the full 2hr 40min period. Usually let us out at 2hrs or less. Class focused on more of statistics than CJ but for a mandatory class he makes it very easy for students and helps when needed. Open book 2/3 tests and gives study guide that he chooses test questions from. Attend class and you will do fine

Rea should be teaching statistics, not CJ. Tests were actually math, calculator required. Book is self explanatory and he gives examples that are 90% similar on the test. No Papers, 3 Tests

In all honestly this class is EASY! Open book, open notes for 2 of his 3 tests. I taught myself all the statistics material and got A's on all three tests. He is a little boring and the class is geared toward the statistical analysis of Criminal Justice but it's required for the CJ major.

Honestly, this class wasn't that bad. Its mostly statistics work, but if you attend all the classes and sit near the front (he talks quietly) you'll do fine. Two of three tests were open book, and he gives you a study guide with the questions on it so its hard not to get an A!

Seems like a cool guy, but definitely better off teaching PA or city planning courses. We spent the entire semester doing statistics, then the last 3 classes were spent shoving some criminal justice terms in there. Its unfortunate that we pay so much tuition and the professors are forced to teach subjects that aren't their emphasis.

This class was alright. Dr Rea was a good professor. Hes a bit boring, but he tests were pretty easy. The test questions are directlt from his lectures so pay attention. Overall his test were simply as long as you studied the study questions.

Nice enough man, but teaching ability is lacking and grading is WORSE. Thinks this is a private school or something. Mumbles in class and laughs during situations other people wouldn't. Weird personality never know what mood is in- until he does that freaky chuckle. VERY DIFFICULT GRADER ALL ESSAY TESTS. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU CAN AVOID. DO NOT TAKE.

Worst teacher ever!!! This class had nothing to do with criminal justice. He also doesn't know anything about CJ anyways so don't bother asking him anything. I wouldn't recomend this class to anyone.

Not the most exciting teacher ever, and when you question his grading of tests i.e. you and someone else get the EXACT thing wrong, but graded differently, he says "I dont change scores, and I dont compare tests" Somehow I got 2 D's on the tests, but turned in the HW and the Final and got a B in the class. Go figure. But either way... tough grader.

This class was a lot easier than I expected. Not as boring as I anticipated either, but definitely take it during the summer if you can. Only three tests and not a lot of homework. I thought the teacher was nice and somewhat helpful. He looks like he could be Prof Gazelle's cousin - they both look a little like Elmer Fudd.

Very vague in his explanations, and not very helpful either, but CJA 540 is actually much easier than it seems. He grades a little hard on the exams, but the regular busy work assignments will make the difference.

Wouldn't take him again unless I HAD to. Very hard grader and never returns calls or emails. You could ace everything and get a random B and you will recieve a B.
