He is a great professor and a very funny guy. His class does require you (the student) to know the subject. The people that complain that he is too hard and that their GPA had dropped because of him, should realize that maybe they are not as a good a student as they thought they were. If you like to read and do your work, then you will do fine.

Unorganized, erratic lectures...........Talks a llllottt... He's unclear about what he expects to see as essay answers, and often focuses on wierd aspects of history. Easy class if you like history, however, take it with someone else. Tsuyuki is just not good at teaching. Nice guy, likes to joke...just sucks at teching!

I suggest all ESL students have to prepare very well for your listening skills and writing skills before taking his class because this class is extremely hard for ESL students. He explains randomly. Even though I already take ESL 151 and know how to write essay, I still cannot do it well in his class. Anyway he is a funny guy.

I do not suggest anyone to take this teacher. He is a hard grader. His lectures are very boring. I passed with a "D." He is funny, but boring mostly all the time. He is not helpful and clear with his lecture. The tests are not from the lectures.

I regret taking him so much. he is funny at first but he is also boring. I had a hard time staying awake in his class. your grade is based ONLY on the tests and he is a VERY hard grader. it didnt matter how many SI's i attended, the tests are not focused on the stuff he lectures on

I do not get what these other people are talking about. He gives 3 essay questions during the test and you're required to answer 2 of them. You may think this is easy, but he is such a hard grader. I was fooled into taking this class by all the great reviews, but I REGRET IT! I think all these"great" comments were submitted by Makoto himself

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO SAY HE IS EASY, AND DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! the only thing he grades you on are your tests, so if you mess up on those, then you're screwed. To top it all off, he is THE most ridiculous grader I've ever had in my LIFE! I only had As and Bs on my transcript, and I ended up getting a C. Listen to me and don't take him!

He is a hard grader. If you're not a history major ask him to help you learn how to write an essay for a history class otherwise you will NOT get good grades. No history teacher will give you the answer for the test because it is subjective. He is a really cool guy, but does go off on tangents pretty often.

Honestly his test are whack. the questions he ask do come up in the class lecture but when u answer them as such on the test he still marks off points. its one of those class where you dont really noe what he wants in an essay until you eventually figure it out along the semester. Take good notes. He is very funny, nice and helpful. All of his tests are essays. But, you pretty much know what the questions are going to be based on what he talked about in his lectures.
