The only grades are the tests - if you don't show up, you won't do well, but it's worth showing up!! He's always willing to help outside of class and if you're struggling, it reallly helps. You can tell he wants you to succeed

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR FOR CHEM1110. He teaches stuff that will not be on the test and make the test unnecessary hard for no reason. His he is very rude and disrespectful to you when you go to his office hours.

I had Santiago for lab of Chem 1110. I really liked him as a professor and you could tell he really wanted you to understand the material. The tests were not difficult, as long as you study.

4 tests and 1 Cum. final. The 20 question tests are what get everyone. They are already difficult and missing 2 questions is a letter grade. Some of the questions are very arguable BUT BEWARE. . .Santiago's word is law. Blood, sweat, and tears will get you that B and you will be PROUD of that B. His old tests. Find them. Same concepts, diff Q's.

If you participate, you'll pass. Presenting, a few assignments, and participation make up the grade, but Dr. Santiago is very generous when grading. He takes attendance and expects you to ask questions. A super easy A if you just show up.

Dr. Santiago is a great person, but he made Biochem so difficult. Four exams and a final give your grade. The tests are written way more complex than they need to be, but if you can figure out what he's asking, you can get the right answer. First half was based off slides not put on UTC Learn. Second half was only reactions. Takes attendance.

Comment:
Dr. Santiago can be a great person and it is obvious he cares about each student learning. However, the class is unnecessarily difficult. There will be grammar mistakes and questions that contradict the notes on the exams. It is very difficult to get an A because each question is worth so many points. Overall, good guy but difficult.

Santiago is a great professor, but he really expect you to know most everything before the class. As long as you are good in Chem, you'll be good in Chem lab. Kinda intimidating at first, but you'll get the hang of it. 2 tests, and no final. Take notes on what's on the board and write down the questions from pre lab quizzes to study. Got an A .

Take what Santiago says with a pinch of salt because he tries his hardest to treat his students as chemists/researchers and THINKERS! He absolutely loves to generate class discussions on simple concepts and doesn't want anyone to feel tongue-tied. Record his lectures, and you'll do fine on his exams. Use the textbook from CHEM4510 as a supplement.

Santiago is one of those professors that all your friends fail, and you're left pulling out a B by your sweat and tears. Four tests and final. That's it. I had an A until the final (it's worth 2 test grades) so please learn from my mistakes and go to his office weekly for help. I learned a lot in this class, but 1 mistake on a test will cost you.

Santiago is okay, but I would never take this class again in a million years. He's really tough and goes through slides so fast you don't even have time to read-- and refuses to put them online to study. He is helpful during class if you have a question, but he moves so quickly that you have a million questions and it's hard to get him to clarify.

GO TO SI!! You will use the textbook, if you want to do well on your composition notebook. Dr. Santiago thinks that everyone will become a chemist and he gets super upset when you don't seem interested in his lectures. If you go to SI, you will most definitely pass the class with at least a B.

Santiago is very passionate about his material. His lectures are confusing, but his class is an easy A. If you take his class, GO TO SI. He gives the SI leader the exams, so you can easily pass them. He also gives extra credit quizzes for showing up to class that can really boost your grade.

Santiago is an okay guy, but he really struggles to make things clear and explain exactly what he's talking about. He constantly says he's "going slow," but in reality it's really hard to keep caught up and understand.

I've heard Santiago is a great general chemistry professor, however I can't say that for biochemistry. Extremely hard to hear, test are vague and confusing, sometimes correct answers on the test contradict class notes. He's very passionate about this subject and is a great guy, but this is the most difficult class I have ever taken.

Santiago makes you earn your grade- no curves and no extra credit (Except for attendance bonus points). Attendance is mandatory if you care about your grade. GO TO S.I. FROM THE START!! He allows the SI instructor to go over the exact test questions! Santiago is an excellent teacher. He is tough, but with motivation & discipline it is possible.
