Took him for the winter class. He makes you work for your grade and he gives you many opportunities to revise your work for a higher grade. His feedback can be annoying at times, but my writing did improve a lot. Be on top of your work, revise and you can get an A. As others said, stay away from the "to be" verbs.

You think you are great in essays until you take Prof. McBeth, teaches you alot and actually useful for the work field. Alot of assignments and one group project. Provides great but kinda harsh feedback, always lets you revise. One thing i love was that he is funny, makes class fun. I really enjoyed his class and you get the grade you deserve.

Avoid to be verbs or you wouldnt pass this class. Midterm: a essay you have to do in order to do the in class portion (that was open book). A group project and a final paper. You can redo your work until you get the full points

Challenging class but definitely worth taking if you want to see an improvement in your writing. You are able to resubmit your work as long as you meet the first deadline. For my first online class, I appreciate his thorough directions for the assignments. Great teacher. FYI, beware of the "to-be" verbs, they will ANNOY you! Good luck.

Fall 2018 (online). I'm a keep it real. I worked hard for that A+. I had good writing skills before ENG 235. If you have kids, work a lot, or get stressed easily, this might not be the class for you. McBeth is a great professor, but the class requires dedication and time management. Assignments are always posted so you can submit them early.

For those of you who want to learn how to write in the real world, take this professor. His assignments are clear to the point. You can redo assignments as many times as you want to get a better grade. His class is hard at the beginning, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy. Easy A, if you work for it!

Professor McBeth is a great english professor! Since many want a good grade he allows for revisions on essay until you can get a grade, even an A+ (regardless on John jays stance on them). The initial start to the class is intimidating but I think that's his method of seeing which kids really wanna learn. Writing Center helps!!

class is hard, he wants everything his way if you are not a very skilled writer you are going to fail the class. the "to be" verb is not allowed in writing. he will stress you out and on top of that he writes (go to the writing center for extra help) people have jobs they have to feed their kids .

Of course, like any class, you wont pass if you do not do the work. He gives you endless chances to resubmit your work, and points out your mistakes so you know what mistakes you have to fix. Not an easy class, but learned many things including the use of unnecessary to be verbs. Take him if you actually want to learn things from the course.

Professor Mc Beth is an amazing Professor who is also inspiring. He doesn't fret to assist you in the assignments given and he gives you the opportunity to resubmit work after getting his feedback. What I loved most about him is that he is well-read and suggested books for my reading that helped me both academically and personally.

The only good thing about this Professor is that he lets you revise work. He talks too much about his politics. He doesn't allow you to use "to be verbs" in your work and won't read it if he sees two or more. Can be somewhat close-minded and condescending.

I had Dr. McBeth at City College for a grad course in 2008, and he's been a big inspiration in the way I teach writing now. Laid-back, down-to-Earth, and knowledgeable. He makes the material come alive.

He's a knowledgable and fun professor. Very engaging and helpful outside of the classroom. Assigns a lot of work but allows you to resubmit for better grades. Not an easy do nothing course, but if you do the work well you will get an A.

Mark is great. He gives tough love but if you respond with hard work you will be successful. He is incredibly supportive. I would take one of his classes every semester if I could afford it. SHOW UP. Don't take the class if you don't want to grow in your writing and aren't up for doing that work. It's a really fun class.

Such a kind person! He makes sure to get to know everyone's names and hands out candy before most classes. His work is HARD though, be prepared to write a ton and submit a million drafts before you get that A.
