There's a ridiculous amount of outside work for a lower-level course. On average, I wrote 20-page summaries for each book (we got through 3 books). It's an interesting topic (Race and racism in US pop culture) but the amount of outside work made me dread the class.

She's a wonderful teacher who has very good ideas and sparks conversation. You need to read the books and participate, but the reading is not difficult and usually pretty interesting. She makes a very boring subject interesting.

You will read and use every book she mandates for the class. You'll read before class and come to class and discuss that portion of the reading. You occasionally will write papers on specific chapters, too.

I love Dr. Bloodworth's class! She encourages all to participate in class discussion which are usually pretty interesting. You will learn lots of new and interesting things if you keep up on the reading. Attendance is mandatory, so as long as you go to class everyday and do the readings you will do fine!

Didn't care much for Bloodsworth-Lugo's teaching methods. She would give her opinion and state it as fact. Once she marked 5 points off my short essay, went to her office hours and gave her proof on what I said was correct but she didn't buy it and said her lectures were the only thing that mattered while writing an in-class essay.

She is always interested in what she is teaching which makes it interesting. For someone who had no interest going in, I came out really liking it. Grade is based on attendance and tests which aren't too hard.

EXCELLENT professor! This class was very interesting to me she makes it very easy to learn/study! Tests were easy if you study and all multiple choice. Attendance is mandatory but never boring in my opinion. I can't stress enough what a wonderful prof Dr. Bloodsworth is!!

LOVE HER! she is so sweet and passionate about the material. she wants all of her students to succeed and does what she can to help. tests are long and a lot of writing, but she gives you study guides listing all the topics on the test. she has a lot of in-class activities and lots of videos so attendance is a must. but its a fun class to attend

Hands down one of the best professors at WSU. If you get the opportunity to take a class from her, do yourself a favor and do all the reading. If you do (which you should, as there's daily reading responses) I guarantee you'll learn something and enjoy her class. There isn't a smarter, nicer person here that you could learn from.

Good teacher. She encourages class discussion, pay attention to what she reads from the books and writes on board for easy material for exams! Lots of reading, lots of writing. Daily notecards to turn in, four in-class exam essays, and a final presentation and 10-14 page paper. As long as you don't mind writing, this is an easy A or B.

I wasn't too interested in this class at first, but it got better at the end. However, Mary was an excellent professor all the way through. I went and talked to her before an exam once and it helped a ton. She is really a great professor and teaches the class well.

Clear expectations, clear information, very fair teacher considering grading. Lots of reading, and she will know if you don't, but the class participation she encourages and the helpful information she brings really clearify the issues.

Interesting and fun class. There is a lot of reading, but she provides you with a detailed syllabus! Every day you fill out an index card on the assigned homework which counts for participation points and it keeps you on track in reading as well.
