Terrible teacher. She either likes you or she doesn't like and your grade reflects that. No syllabus, no Sakai page, no lesson plan. It's an okay class and very easy but there is no way of knowing what your grade will be until you get it.

Professor Malouf is amazing! I really don't understand some of the reviews here. She's a sweetheart. She's honest when your work is good and when it needs a little bit of work. Go in with an open mind and a willingness to change the way you write, engage with readings and assignments, and she'll definitely help you improve your writing!

Yo she's really great, all the previous ratings are from like 2006 so I don't think they're reliable anymore. Easiest class you'll ever take. Super nonstress! Even better if you actually enjoy creative writing.

I like her style! I compare her to a fake sad sack like Mottadadeh, who i a class with a few years ago, and see that Malouf is a sharp, critical, but actualy interesting thinker and influence.

Comment:
I majored in English at Duke, I took over 15 courses in my time there and I believe I had a representative sampling of the department. I took Malouf's course to pursue the graduation with distinction in creative writing. In one semester, she destroyed my entire self-worth as a writer, a student and my faith in educational system as a whole.

She does pick her favorites in the beginning, she does measure you against her OWN style, and in my class, she only invited select students over to her house for dinner (the initial "favored" ones). As an 18 year old, I did not enter her class with a strong sense of self and her "analysis" was detrimental to my budding creativity but she was wrong.

Comment:
Uses vague facial expressions because she can't express her feedback with words or arguments. Insists that techniques observed are right there on the page when no one else can see or grasp them. You'll basically do okay if you're a replica of her. She guages "goodness" in writing by comparing your style to hers.

Great teacher, I learned a lot in her class. She really cares and is genuine. If you're looking for someone that will just tell you your work is wonderful when it's not, she's not your girl. She will give you credit when it is merited, which will help you learn. The previous ratings are unfair.

She decided who she liked the first day, and there was no way to change her first impression. She rambled about nothing for hours and made us come to her house for extra classes on weekends.

Wow. The only positive thing about this class was that I always had a lot of stories to tell my friends. She does the dumbest things in the world (eg not knowing how to play a VCR). Her book selection is terrible, she has no idea how to analyze, let alone teach. Overall a disastrous class. And her grading system: Star, plus, check-plusâ€"wtf is that?

She's a very nice person, but throughout the year I often questioned how she became a college professor. She's terribly uninformed and shockingly unintelligent. Smart kids will be frustrated by her. Dumb ones will eat up everything she says.

She's a sweetheart. How many other teachers will invite you over to their house, cook you a meal, and let you have a fun time reading an assignment outloud that might outherwise be boring? Yes, she's honest, most of my work got torn apart. But I learned a lot.

hot, for her age! she's very sweet, helpful, and eager to meet with you. i don't understand the reviews posted here... every single one of my classmates loved her. some of the reviews are correct though- she is NOT afraid to let you know that she doesn't like your writing. a blessing, right?
